Story Movie

Nathan Drake hasn't seen his older brother Sam in 15 years since he ran away from the orphanage. The lad is working as a bartender and is out doing petty theft when Victor Sullivan, nicknamed Sully, approaches him and offers to go in search of Magellan's long-lost treasure. Upon learning that Sully knows Sam, Nathan agrees to the adventure, hoping to find his brother as well.

I want to let you know right away that I am not a fan of the computer game of the same name. I once saw a friend playing it, but I am not familiar with it. So my thoughts and judgments are based purely on my impressions from watching it as an adventure movie. I am sure that the fans of the game themselves are able to adequately assess the picture in terms of their usual universe.

Plot. Treasure hunter Victor Sullivan hires the trickster Nathan Drake to help him with an interesting, difficult and dangerous case. Besides, Nate has his own interest in the mission: there is a chance to find his missing older brother...

The apparent primitiveness of the storyline in new films of this genre has long been the norm. But the movie goes further: it collects all possible clichés about treasure hunters, introduces primitive tasks (that cannot even be called puzzles) and absolutely kills the intrigue in embryo. There is a showy game of cat and mouse here, but you can't believe it. Everything happens in a childishly silly, fake and unnatural way. The authors decided to remove the tape common sense, realism and believable physics. Judge for yourself: the guards of the super important artifact can be easily fooled around like small children, the police in this world simply does not exist, the tricks in the air remind the dream of a madman... But what amused me most was the fact that people can easily talk to each other during a free fall. It's good that at least they don't drink tea with cookies. I recently remembered my first parachute jump. Well, during it I even had trouble breathing... Special mention should be made of the decrepitude of the ships, which varies depending on the scripted moments. The ending spits on all the laws of physics and banal logic, but by the time the ending it is difficult to adequately perceive the reality given by the creators.

Atmosphere. In adventure movies the atmosphere is almost a key parameter. It creates a variety of factors that should work harmoniously as a single mechanism. There are big problems with this. The camerawork is only as good as the camera view. When it comes to fights, it becomes almost impossible to keep track of the details, and your eyes begin to hurt from the endless flickering. Some fight scenes resemble the best Jackie Chan movies, where everything you could get your hands on was used during the showdown. But the very staging of battles strongly resembles the recent 'Matrix' in the worst sense of this comparison. Among all the actors, only Tom Holland (Nathan Drake) who gives at least some emotion looks normal. Mark Wahlberg (Victor Sullivan) plays Mark Wahlberg, Sophia Taylor Ali (Chloe) cannot reveal her character well, and Antonio Banderas (Santiago Moncada) will soon be trusted to play only plastic dummies. The humor is good in some places, but the repetitive jokes get frankly boring after a while. The poor nuns are recalled countless times, and the peculiarity of Nate's lighter at times builds on key scenes. How the pictures of the adventure genre have become so shallow...

Music. The average musical selection is unlikely to be memorable, but at least it's not annoying. If you are not too picky, you can find tunes of quite acceptable quality.
