Story Movie

The story of two passion-hungry sisters Gudrun and Ursula and their male lovers Gerald and Rupert, disillusioned with life and the love of women.

Review 4K Movie

Love can creep up on you unnoticed. Sometimes we wait desperately for it or search for it diligently, but we may not notice that our soul mate is right next to us. Once we grasp this feeling, we try hard not to lose it. By paying so much attention, a person may not notice how they gradually begin to lose their mind and condemn themselves to emotional suffering. This idea was the basis for the psychological drama “Women in Love.”

Synopsis England, 1920s. Sisters Ursula and Gudrun dream of love, passion, and men with whom they could spend the rest of their lives. Ursula is in love with Rupert, a young intellectual, while Gudrun is constantly drawn to Rupert's best friend Gerald, who is disillusioned with women and does not believe in love. However, real passions flare up between the characters, which ultimately lead to a dramatic denouement.

Acting Overall, all the actors performed their roles beautifully, creating characters with a unique mindset and psychology. However, I would like to single out Oliver Reed, Glenda Jackson, and Alan Bates. I will start with Alan Bates, who played the role of Rupert, a young philosopher who believes in the unity of nature and man and prefers freedom despite love. The charismatic Oliver Reed played the role of Gerald, a young industrialist who has long been disillusioned with women and love because he sees only deception in them. The most interesting, mysterious, and perhaps the most likable role was played by Glenda Jackson, who played Gudrun, a young sculptor who, like her sister Ursula, dreams of love and sex and therefore tries to find it among people with whom no sane person would associate. But unexpectedly for herself, she finds this love in Gerald.

Direction Without a doubt, Women in Love is an art house film. Director Ken Russell did not try to shoot a beautiful love story with a tragic or happy ending. His style deserves a standing ovation because, in my opinion, he successfully explored the depths of human nature and conveyed it to the screen. The director shows us the characters from the inside, whereas in films love is usually expressed externally in the form of dates, kisses, etc. Here, we get a whole psychedelic experience, full of surreal and candid scenes. It is worth noting that male and female nudity did not look vulgar, but rather formed a kind of human unity with nature. In my opinion, Russell wanted to tell us that love comes from nature and therefore must be obeyed, not resisted, as Oliver Reed's character did, for which he paid dearly.

Screenplay “Women in Love” is definitely an intellectual film. The film is full of dialogues, reflections, and judgments on the theme of love, which has been mentioned more than once, on women, on marriage, and, of course, on the meaning of life. It is worth noting the abundance of events in the plot of the film, because by the end of the film, it feels like you have watched an entire series. The reason for this is the change in the characters of the main characters, who occupy one position at the beginning of the film and may defend the opposite position towards the end.

Conclusion In general, “Women in Love” is a very specific film. It begins unexpectedly and ends unexpectedly, leaving you confused for three or four minutes after the credits roll. I won't say that the film is for a select audience. I just want to say that this film is not typical of the cinema of the late 1960s and early 1970s. But that is precisely what sets it apart, making it vivid and unforgettable.
