I'll be honest, the 'Ugly Me' franchise should have ended with the third movie, the plot of which you could really fall asleep to. Nevertheless, the fourth part, as far as I am concerned, turned out better than the previous one. Here at least the villain's motivation is clear, but that doesn't make it adequate, it's still as strange and naive as before. Destroy everything and everyone for the fact that they took away your candy in childhood - this is, apparently, the top of the scriptwriters of 'Ugly I', and in the 4th part it was twisted to the maximum.

So, at the expense of what can hook this movie? Gru has a new addition to the family. The kid is remotely reminiscent of 'Boss Milkman', but he's not so nasty, but rather even funny. Gags were not written on him, but they do not need them. The kid looks appropriate in the frame, and some sketches with him were even funny.

Minions. As far as I'm concerned, the authors found the perfect tool to stretch the timing. If to remove all the buffoonery with minions, which in some places was too much, the cartoon would be about 1 hour and 10 minutes. There are too many of them, although only a couple of them are really useful. Bottom line: a lot of noise makes little sense. Before, their shenanigans at least had an impact on the world around them, but now they just get a little dirtier than they were originally.

Main Villain. Here the authors, as they say, gave the heat. Apparently they liked the concept of a man offended by everyone from the 3rd part, and decided to complete it. As I wrote above, the villain here is offended at everyone for the fact that he was stolen candy in childhood. We are introduced to him as a mega scientist who, judging by the scope, was supposed to bring about the apocalypse, no less. However, very little was shown to us, although it was clear from the cartoon that something big was going to happen. The final denouement with him is extremely weak.

So at the expense of what this cartoon can catch on? At the expense of references. There are a lot of them, starting with those that refer to the first part, ending with...Terminator. However, the most references were to the franchise 'Spider-Man', they were somehow obscenely numerous.
