As befits a royal person, Emperor Kuzco is a very busy man. But his latest occupation threatens to turn into big trouble: the ruler has decided to build a water park for himself, having previously demolished one of the kingdom's villages. This plan would have been realized if the Emperor himself had not already been in trouble: his enemies turned him into a llama! But the trouble doesn't end there: the only person who could help the emperor return to the throne and to his own body is a villager doomed to demolition. The road home for Kuzco promises to be a very long one.

The mysterious and long-lost Inca Empire has captured the imagination of archaeologists for many years, and gradually we have come to learn much more about this great civilization. It has given us many amazing architectural monuments and amazed us with its scale, which covered a huge territory. And in 2000, Disney Studios presented its new animated film, The Emperor's New Groove, to the public, set in that very empire that left a huge mark on human history.

The plot introduces us to a young man named Kuzco, who lives a life of luxury. This is because he is the emperor of the Incas, and no one has the right to contradict him. However, great power has turned the hero into a frankly spoiled boy who lives solely for his own pleasure. This does not please the witch Yzma, who has dreamed of the throne for many years and has persuaded her assistant Kronk to poison Kuzco. But something went wrong, and Kuzco did not die, but turned into an ordinary llama, only one that could talk.

Miraculously finding himself in the cart of an ordinary peasant named Pachi, Kuzco decided that he must regain his human form as quickly as possible and fight his enemies. But first, he needed to learn some manners and understand that the world does not revolve around his, in fact, rather modest person. Of course, it would not be easy to change his nature, but together with Pachico, Kuzco would have enough time to take a completely different look at the world around him. And then – a trip to the imperial palace.

I wouldn't say that this cartoon has a very intricate plot, but what it does have is a Latin American flavor. Or, to be more precise, the style of the Inca Empire. I understand that many moments here have been simplified for greater audience comprehension, including children, but overall, the style of the cartoon is quite original, and the characters who take part in this story are quite pleasant and amusing. This even applies to the slightly obnoxious Kuzco, who has to be re-educated.

If I were to describe this story as a whole, it is built on the typical Disney formula. The main character invites trouble upon himself, which is created by a witch, and then he tries to reform and take back what is rightfully his. It seems simple, but the good humor, pleasant animation, and high-quality voice acting, both original and localized, make this story truly special and vivid.

I consider The Emperor's New Groove to be an excellent cartoon for the widest possible audience. After all, it was very interesting to see how Disney animators view the Inca empire. And I'll tell you, it turned out just great—positivity and good mood after watching are guaranteed.
