Alfred Hitchcock's work is a rare and unique case, he always managed to combine spectacle and psychology in a masterful way. The man who really managed to scare practically the whole world, although in his films there are no 'scary' scenes, they remain behind the scenes, and this is a recognized talent. You can show rivers of blood on the screen and it will look mediocre, or you can show just one drop, which will make you shudder and close your eyes. The main thing is to present it correctly, and therein lies the skill. There should be a bit of mystery, both in the frame and in the story.

In this film, Hitchcock appears in a slightly different role. The King of Horror swung into humor. The movie is unusual, the emphasis is on suspense, but the thriller is based on the fact that there is no crime with a whole crowd of suspects and everything instantly turns into a theater of absurdity stuffed with black humor. A little boy finds a corpse in the woods, and life for the inhabitants of a small town becomes unbearable to the point of hysterical laughter. In a way, it's a logical dead end. The book of the same name by Jack Trevor Story, is a bit bleak, but Hitchcock presented it with an unmistakable smile. The movie came out fairy-tale, gorgeous scenery, great cast picked up by the maestro himself, breathtaking humor, entertaining plot and, of course, appropriate music by Bernard Herrmann.

In general, the brilliant madman, who has always acted on the principle, 'waiting for trouble, much worse than the trouble itself', creates a parody of the thriller, in a sense, a parody of himself.

But what remains undeniable is the fact that the master of suspense has a sense of humor!
