Another anime about the lives of beautiful little girls. The setting is a planet very similar to our Earth. This planet has just experienced its Great Flood. The water has receded, revealing a mysterious dead world. The ark has rusted away, the animals have died, and Noah is left all alone. He steps ashore, but sees only shadows around him.
And then she appeared—a little girl in a pink dress, a tiny cosmic saint. The girl collects rainwater in round vessels and hides a mysterious egg under her dress. How did she get here? How did she survive in such an inhospitable world? How is she connected to the mysterious batyscaphe temple? Perhaps it brought her to this planet?
The author, Mamoru Oshii, does not want to give an answer. He narrates slowly, hypnotizes us, and invites us to admire the beautiful pictures. The artwork is very elegant, with a wealth of detail. Both living characters glow from within, their shadows mysterious and deep. Many small details of architecture, technology, and ghostly inhabitants are drawn—things that once breathed life. The music, along with other sounds, is enchanting, creating the atmosphere of a beautiful and sad fairy tale.

The action is very sluggish, and the plot only begins to become clear halfway through. It is mainly the man who speaks, and the lines he utters do not make a very pleasant impression. This is how a deadly tired, not very intelligent, and didactic person might speak. Even the climax, where I was waiting for a satisfying “crunch!”, is blurred. Instead of an active denouement, there is a long pseudo-gothic “A-a-a-a!”, blue views of the city, and other soulful beauties.

I think viewers should familiarize themselves with the plot before watching this film. That way, it will be easier and more enjoyable to watch. It is a very beautiful anime, but not for fans of action and lively kawaii, which I consider myself to be. But if you like unhurried films with philosophical pretensions, such as the works of A. Tarkovsky, if Hedgehog in the Fog is the pinnacle of world animation for you, or if you simply don't care what it's about, as long as it's beautiful, then this film is for you. You may even consider it a masterpiece.
