16-year-old Suzume lives in a quiet town on the island of Kyushu. One day, on her way to school, she meets a young traveler who asks where the ruins are in the neighborhood. Curiosity takes over, and the girl decides to see what's so interesting there - she sneaks into a local abandoned place, finds a mysterious door, opens it and pulls a strange stone out of the ground. Soon a giant entity emerges from the open door and triggers an earthquake. Now Suzume, along with the same stranger suddenly turned into a child's chair, has to go in pursuit of the harmful talking kitty to close the doors that are opening all over the country and prevent more destruction.

With a running time of more than two hours, it's a gift for all lovers of a truly compelling romance. The kind of romance that only Shinkai can pull off. It's not for nothing that he is increasingly being compared to Hayao Miyazaki as a professional of his genre.

So here's a story with a not-so-original beginning. Suzume, a curious high school girl, accidentally makes a mess of things. It managed to convey the atmosphere of Japanese cities, and the wind of traveling and the parallelism of another world. Especially filigree turned out the very doors and places containing them. The scene with the Ferris wheel is eerily alive.

The cons are still there. Two hours was not enough. The movie turned out to be a lot of events, mysteries, characters, places, parallel stories. However, it cannot be called a mishmash. The story is integral, gradual, with disclosure, the necessary time is given to almost every moment. Only in rare episodes there is a barely noticeable jump, when it seems that here would be a couple more minutes and everything would be filigree. Probably, it's already extremely high demands for perfection. But it's Shinkai's own fault, there's no reason to raise the bar higher than the sky every time.

Actually summarizing. A great movie that has everything. Almost adult romance here soft and pleasant. Good humor generously gives joy. Responsive people and true friendship inspire. Some calmness and lightness are present after this picture. The movie is sure to please couples, big companies, anime fans and fans of really good movies.
