An unforgettable vacation, in which there is a place for homemade pasta, and ice cream, and endless moped rides, a boy named Luca spends in a beautiful seaside town located on the Italian Riviera. Not a single adventure of Luka is complete without the participation of his new best friend, and the carelessness of the rest is overshadowed only by the fact that, in fact, a sea monster is hiding in the guise of a boy from the depths of the lagoon on the shore of which the town stands.

"Luka" is an insanely sunny and summer cartoon filled with the aroma of the sea breeze and freshly made pasta. Enrico Casarosa started this story. This is his first project as a Pixar director, but it is not at all surprising that the studio entrusted it to him. He himself is an Italian from Genoa (one of the heroines of the film is just studying there) and, like no one else, was able to convey this charm of the Apennine hinterland. The story, which begins as a story about another day in Luka's life, turns into a teenage story about finding himself and his dream. Despite a serious idea, it is not at all devoid of a childish flavor. This is helped by the general mood, where friendship is the highest of feelings, and love is equated with kindness.

The story itself is not particularly original. Luca is a sea monster (in fact, something similar to a rusala), his life is not interesting, his parents are against their son's craving for earthly life and protect him in every possible way, but one day he meets Antonio, who almost completely migrated to land and lives without families. From now on, Luke becomes his new friend and only family, with whom they go to the city for a dream, and to protect the latter from being sent to the bottom of the sea to his uncle. Sea monsters have one interesting feature: on land they can transform into humans, but if a drop of water falls on them ... and they are sea inhabitants again! Just like that long-standing mermaid series H2O, and a lot of comic situations will build on this. However, like any Pixar cartoon, comedy coexists with drama here. On land they find their dream - the Vespa scooter, on which they dream of going on a trip. A scooter for them is a symbol of freedom, but they still need to earn money for it. So, they find the only sure way - to win the local race. A local girl, Julia, helps them in this. She comes to Porto Rosso for the summer, to her father, and for many years has been trying to win the race and throw off the original "ruler" of the town of Giacomo. This team of outsiders, the self-named "Onion Mountain" in Russian voice acting, will try to win and keep the guys secret.

The cartoon poses the problem of growing up and finding oneself, exaggerating it to an example of an amphibian man. To be afraid of them, but in fact they are the same people. An illustrative episode is how Antonio teaches Luca to walk on the ground. He literally gets to his feet and begins to live, but love does not allow him to leave the ground.

Luka has its own inexpressible childish charm, immersed in beautiful dreams and classical music. Italy and eternal summer oozes from everywhere here, posters of classic films are hung around the city, and children are chasing a ball in the central square. Childhood on the screen will last only a couple of hours, but a new adventure is already waiting for it.
