Piranha 4K 1978 Ultra HD 2160p
"The Cold War is over, but are all its consequences and inventions a thing of the past? A secret laboratory bred giant piranhas, capable of surviving in any climate. The base was closed, and the remaining fish, along with the accidentally discharged water, ended up in the nearest river, and from there into the lake.

Review 4K Movie

In anticipation of the release of the remake I wanted to see the original. It is strange that this film is almost unknown in our country, although it is not a masterpiece, but it is quite watchable.

I will start with the good things. This is the directorial debut of a very talented and in the future successful director Joe Dante. He will direct such great films as "Gremlins" and "Soldiers". But, as it turns out, he started out as a low-budget thriller for the now iconic low-budget film studio New World Pictures. The debut came out very good, though not perfect.

The main merit of this film is the humor. This film is simply funny to watch. And it is even funnier because many of the jokes are said with a very serious face. But in some places, the self-irony is a little lacking. Although it is not really a comedy, just a very funny horror film. But still it is obvious that the director himself was not quite sure what to make of it.

The plot is very banal for the time. After the phenomenal success of the film "Jaws" all the Hollywood studios have made a few horror movies on water. Movies were coming out so-so, "Jaws" and no one jumped over, although it is not the worst case, see for example some "tentacles" and this film seems a masterpiece. But the delirium is off the charts in places. First of all the utter stupidity of almost all the characters strikes me. Why should these dumb teenagers have had to get into strange waters, they should not go to the river or splash in the bathtub, but no, they should have got into an abandoned territory in a black pool. But then it gets even worse. Some journalist and her very dumb comrade set the piranhas free, and they in turn quietly eat the locals. Basically normal for the genre, though, and in some places it even awakens interest. And the dialogues are fun.

But even in this hilarious idiocy peeks good sense. Just do not climb where it hurts, and even if you get in (well, if it's not enough), then it is necessary to accurately fix everything on the sly. Well, and still need to take care of ecology. Yes, and at the same time it is also a cool banter over the then horror stories.

For a trashy movie, it's pretty cool. There's no atmosphere, but it's quite enjoyable to watch, and it's memorable for some reason. I can't exactly call it a horror flick, in general the style of narration resembles a romantic comedy rather than a horror flick. You watch it with interest, except that the second half is a bit boring. The visuals are not bad at all. It is a pity that there is not much blood and there are not so many fish. The actors are pretty passable for the genre. The soundtrack is not bad.

Conclusion: Not a bad little thrashy movie for a couple of viewings. Nothing special, but it can amuse you. Advice for fans of the genre.
