The seventies in the U.S., of course, are an amazing time. In general, I sometimes feel sad that I was not born twenty years earlier, preferably in some 'decadent capitalist country' like the United States or England. It was a pretty wild time back then. Alas, I didn't live at that time, and in fact I was born in 1980, so if I had lived then I'd be sitting here now writing about how good the '50s were! But this is all from the subjunctive mood. We do not choose the time in which we live.

But the film's director Richard Linklater lived in the seventies. And you can imagine, it is in this wonderful decade that his graduation falls. Most of us look forward to that day when we see all of our friends for the last time, not knowing when the next reunion will happen or if it will happen. All in all, it's a great time. True, in America, graduation has a few peculiarities. To tell you about them here is to retell you half of the movie. And I don't want to do that, or you'll take offense at me.

For this reason I will share with you the ideas I had while watching the film. They, by the way, were not many. I will highlight only two.

The first idea. After watching fifteen minutes of the movie and desperately yawning I thought, why the hell didn't I read the synopsis of the movie and just sat down to watch it after reading the title? And where is Led Zeppelin in its entirety? A little later I finally 'got a sense' of what the movie was about, and by the end I had formed the idea that I was watching a documentary on 'How I spent my senior year'. Written by Richard Linklater. In fact, the film looks more like a documentary, diluted, of course, by a very decent acting.

Idea Two. Came to me half an hour after watching it. Despite the fact that my graduation was four years ago, I have simply forgotten what it was. Indeed, my graduation was, shall we say, not the most successful, and to remember it is not much and want. On the other hand it seemed to me when I watched it, and now it seems that it is more like a normal Friday night than the prom. Then the first part of the film, before dark, in this context seems to me to be a separate film altogether. A sort of 'day in the life of an American school in the 70's'. And the second part is 'Friday of American Youth of the 70's'.

In my opinion, the film doesn't show the drive you'd expect from it. Though you can't call it passable either. By the way, there are a lot of good actors who are also good at what they do. But once again, I expected more. For this reason, and the excessive documentary nature of what is happening, which deprived the picture of 'spark'.
