Undoubtedly talented, but delirious fantasy of the author, who has made aesthetic porn films before, tells about a psychiatric hospital, headed by the granddaughter of the famous Caligari (a character from German expressionist films of the beginning of the last century), where strange experiments on hypothalamus transplantation and, accordingly, the change of sexual orientation take place.

The other day I came across a curious old movie called 'Dr. Caligari'. At first I thought it was a sequel to Robert Wiene's cult film, but when I watched it, I realized how I was cruelly cheated... ahem, “cheated”. No, it's not a sequel, it's an absolutely wild thrash that tries to pass for arthouse. Or vice versa - art house, carefully disguised as thrash. Steven Sayadian's “Creation” didn't impress me at all. I expected too much from him, and he (the movie) could not justify itself to me even halfway.

Let's start with the plot. There is no plot. There are only pathetic attempts to make a damn smart and stylish movie. Of course it has style, but I can't watch the same thing for 80 minutes straight. In this case, M. Raynal and a bunch of overacting amateurs. It's annoying. Kenneth Enger did 'this kind of stuff' much better. His movies are very short and do not have time to get boring. Here is a total “hardcore” ...

But you might even like the movie. Bright colors, very unusual scenery, uncontrolled flow of shizya, interesting in every way Dr. Caligari (sort of granddaughter of the same one - from Vine's film), sound, atmosphere. But 'the further into the forest, the angrier the woodpeckers', as they say..... Such an abundance of nonsense on the screen I see for the first time. And you get used to this nonsense very quickly and begin to take it for granted. The director has forgotten that if the nonsense in such a movie ceases to be nonsense, then the movie itself ceases to be a movie and turns into a banal “drag”. It's really boring to watch...

I could praise 'Dr. Caligari', but I don't see any point in it. You can say about it - 'a reinterpretation of Vinay's classic film, shot in an expressionist manner', 'a cult movie', etc. But in reality, what we have in front of us is just a creepy postmodern (in the bad sense of the word) movie that diligently rapes our brains. It's a 'parasite movie'. In some ways it's similar to Van Sant's 'Psychosis'. Do you remember 'Psychosis'? Would you prefer it to Hitchcock's classic? I don't think so.

Maybe it's my own fault for not liking the movie. After all, I watched it inattentively and with a break of one day.... I don't want to discourage anyone from watching it, maybe you'll like the movie a lot more than I did. But for now I have to admit that 'Caligari' is not good.
