'Pretty in Pink' was the second movie in my week-long marathon of eighties youth comedies and left a much more pleasant impression than 'Sixteen Candles' - a vulgar picture made two years earlier by the same John Hughes. “Sweetheart” was more interesting and, pardon the tautology, cuter, although these films are almost identical in terms of both the general atmosphere and the issues.

The role of the central character, Andy, went to Molly Ringwald, who had already starred with Hughes in the aforementioned 'Sixteen Candles' and in the famous 'The Breakfast Club'. Andy lives with her father, who is in a deep depression after the departure of his wife and does not want to work, and has to work part-time in a music store and sew her own clothes. Naturally, her school days are not without insulting remarks about her from stereotypical rich blondes. Andy's best friend is unrequitedly in love with her, and she herself is crazy about Blaine, a young man from a wealthy family. Thus, the scenario is based on a love triangle.

Despite the fact that the plot, in general, it is difficult to call unusual, the tape in the right way reveals timeless teenage themes: love, friendship, family, growing up and social recognition. A huge plus of 'Cutie' is the unobtrusive cautionary tale, with which it sets the moral accents. The target audience, that is, young people, the creators of the movie gently nudge on the right road. In addition, 'Honey' has inherent elements of the genre, such as dynamism, charm, lightness and romanticism. That's why even after almost three decades, the picture has not lost its relevance.

'Pretty in Pink' can be safely ranked among the classics of teenage cinema. Cute youth melodrama with a happy ending, guaranteeing immersion in the era of the eighties.
