Recently, I've been into classic horror movies. And I mean classic (they don't make good horror movies anymore). My attention was drawn to Stuart Gordon's film Re-Animator, based on the book by Howard Lovecraft. From the very first minutes of watching, I knew what to expect.

Let's start with the plot. After an “accident” at the University of Zurich, young scientist Herbert West (Geoffrey Combs) is transferred to the American clinic “Miskatonic,” where he continues to prepare a unique serum for reviving corpses. Where he also practices. Further events unfold according to the classic pattern. The plot is very good, and the events unfold at the best pace for such a film.

The acting is good. Young Jeffrey Combs excelled in the role of a psychopathic scientist. Bruce Abbott also played well. And the living corpses are incredible. All in all, a big plus.

The atmosphere of this film is ambiguous. On the one hand, it's a horror film, and it should be scary. On the other hand, it's a comedy. But neither of these aspects is fulfilled in the film. Re-Animator can be described as a creepy film. It keeps you in suspense the whole time, without letting up for a minute. Plus, the composer did an excellent job—I found the entire soundtrack to this film on the internet, and now I enjoy listening to it.

Bottom line: if you want to watch a SCARY film, this is not the one for you. But if you want to watch a creepy film with an excellent atmosphere, watch Re-Animator.
