Story Movie

At a friends' wedding, Janet catches the bride's bouquet and her boyfriend Brad offers her hand and heart. Engaged, the couple decides to break the happy news to their teacher and sets off, but on the way the wheel goes flat and the young people find themselves in the ancient castle of the eccentric Dr. Frank-n-Furter. The doctor introduces them to his newest creation, a muscular young man named Rocky. This house and all its inhabitants exist according to their own laws. Here under energetic music everything that is unacceptable in decent society is possible. And sometimes it seems that all this is happening on some other planet.

Review 4K Movie

In the 1970s, there were no restrictions on what to film or how to film it. No control, no boundaries. The cultural revolution swept across the world, affecting both cinema and music. Hippies with their psychedelic rock, the flamboyant Kiss, and, of course, the androgynous and eccentric genius David Bowie with his B-movie aesthetics and transvestite images. Musicians, actors, directors, and artists of all stripes were having the time of their lives.

It is not surprising that it was during these years that loud, absurd, and great films, imbued with the spirit of rock ‘n’ roll and freedom, were released. Among those that have gone down in history, Jesus Christ Superstar, with music written by Andrew Lloyd Webber, immediately comes to mind.

But today I came across another side of rock operas and musicals of the seventies. The Rocky Horror Picture Show is something else. It is a surreal film, absurd and farcical, taken to the extreme. Some people immediately rack their brains and turn off the film, commenting that they have never seen anything more meaningless and idiotic. Yes, they are right! It is absurd and idiotic, but that is precisely what makes this work so charming. The sensations while watching are similar to those that I (and probably many others) experienced in childhood, when you frolic, jump, and laugh in a crowd of other children, without understanding why, but feeling sincere happiness. There is no plot as such. Or rather, there is, but it's a parody of Dracula, Frankenstein, the works of Ed Wood, and the aforementioned Bowie. Plus, there's an undisguised love for those naive and absurd (by today's standards) fantasy films of the 50s and 60s. It's like Plan 9 from Outer Space with music, dancing, and Tim Curry in stockings and a corset.

At times, the level of madness on screen is so off the charts that you start to believe you're watching a wild, otherworldly masterpiece.

And don't think that the creators took everything seriously. Just listen to the song “Science Fiction,” and you'll understand the mood you need to be in to watch this film. In fact, every song is wonderful and stays with you for a very long time. For the second day in a row, wherever I am, I find myself humming "Touch-a, Touch-a, Touch Me' for two days now, wherever I am.

Films like this are necessary. On a subconscious level, in some inexplicable way, they lift your mood even from rock bottom. All kinds of ‘superhero movies’ and the like are incapable of this. The Show has taste and soul. That's worth a lot.
