Like other art forms, cinema is meant to evoke emotions—whether good or bad depends entirely on the creators’ vision and skill. The film *Hail, Caesar!* tells the story of the difficult lives of filmmakers, set in Hollywood in the mid-1950s.

The film’s plot truly resembles a Christmas tree. The trunk—or the foundation—represents the studio head. He is the boss; he runs everything and keeps everyone on a tight leash. But the boss also helps his subordinates, solves problems, and ensures the well-being of his department, even if it takes a Herculean effort. The secondary storylines are like the branches of the tree: the supporting characters and the situations they find themselves in. Moreover, these branches are vivid and interesting, which is why the film can truly be compared to a Christmas tree.

The film is marketed as a musical comedy, but it certainly cannot be called a musical. Personally, I don’t care for songs and dances in movies, but I have to admit—here they are staged with talent and are even amusing. Especially the scene with the sailors.

All the actors gave superb performances. However, I’d like to single out Alden Ehrenreich above all others. He turned out to be a very convincing old-school movie cowboy, as if his image had been literally copied from old films. George Clooney is also impressive—an older actor, of course, but he holds his own in the saddle; may God grant him good health. Even Jonah Hill, known to the public for his roles in *The Wolf of Wall Street* and *Dudes and Dummies*, played a decent guy for once.

The film tells us about the lives of Hollywood stars and the hidden behind-the-scenes intrigues. The screenplay is structured as “a day in the life,” with events unfolding dynamically and seamlessly. Combined with the setting, the acting, and the humor, the film is a pleasure to watch. Moreover, “Hail, Caesar!” exudes the vintage atmosphere of the 1950s so powerfully that you regret not being able to experience it firsthand.
