“We’ve already celebrated a bachelor party in this glorious city once, where the guys almost lost everything. And how would the girls spend their time? Let’s find out…” That’s what I might have written after reading the synopsis and watching the trailer. But while in The Bachelor Party (where, by the way, the original title didn’t mention Vegas either), the guys at least made it there, the girls didn’t even make it to their destination.

You can’t call it a rom-com, because there’s virtually no romance here. Overall, the script is a comedy with bits of philosophy and morality. But even those bits set the bar high. After watching it, I saw the low ratings on Kinopoisk and was even surprised… maybe those who rated it just didn’t get the movie? Or did they rate it as a parody of The Hangover without even watching it? If so, that’s a completely wrong take. Bridesmaids is about something entirely different—and for a different audience. The humor here is undoubtedly present in full force. There’s a huge amount of raunchy humor, adult irony, and just plain laughter at misfortunes. And one of the friends (the chubby one) is very reminiscent of Zach Galifianakis’s character in both personality and actions. So what are those twenty minutes of serious reflection and philosophizing scattered throughout the film all about? Friendship and loneliness. Watch closely and reflect on the two monologues by the main character in the jewelry store—they aren’t as meaningless as they seem. I’d even say they’re true to life, and that’s what makes them sad. There’s another fleeting thought, but it serves more as a backdrop: don’t dwell on your failures, or you’ll miss out on happiness.

The movie has something for everyone. For those going with a big group to have a laugh—you’ll get plenty of laughs and memories. For those going to see some serious ideas, well, you’ll see them—just be patient. The visuals and soundtrack in movies like this are far from the main focus—very far, in fact. And yet their influence is so subtle and understated that you simply can’t imagine how it would be without them. There were both girls and guys sitting with me in the theater. Everyone had a good time, and laughter and jokes kept coming from the back rows. Isn’t that a sign of true humor?

For a script that plays practically no role at all. For humor that everyone could appreciate, regardless of age or gender. For a moral that not everyone was able to find. And for the member of Alcoholics Anonymous who has never touched alcohol in his life—I’ll give it a seven.
