Review 4K Movie

While my former favorite, Yorgos Lanthimos, is clearly burning out trying to pay off his London mortgage, I seem to be becoming a fan of Christopher Borgli!

I was hooked by his previous work, “The Hero of Our Dreams,” and really enjoyed “The Drama”

I’ll explain why now, while avoiding spoilers as much as possible.

People often try to describe the film as “a story about pre-wedding jitters.” And that links it to the recent Netflix series “I Have a Very Bad Feeling,” but “The Drama” depicts a different level of anxiety: not “what if it doesn’t work out between us?”, but “what if I don’t even know who I’m living with?”

And this resonates far more powerfully than any mystique about “soulmates.” Because in a society of total—and baseless—paranoia, the fear of getting involved with someone capable of something terrible is far more palpable and real.

One ill-timed remark—and the perfect relationship starts to fall apart at the seams.

And then the film does something very uncomfortable but honest: it doesn’t let you take anyone’s side, doesn’t suggest a “correct” reaction, and doesn’t even try to reassure you.

You sit there and, along with Pattinson’s character, think: “Is this even acceptable?” And the most interesting thing is—there’s no answer.

Borgli’s “The Drama” is a rare find these days—a film that grabs you from the very first minutes, leaving you completely in the dark about where the plot will go next. But the key thing is that it doesn’t annoy you; it surprises you. In a good way.

Add to that brilliant humor that (oh, miracle!) is organically woven into serious themes. A brisk runtime. A steady pace that keeps the narrative moving without a single lull. The result is a film that simultaneously entertains and pulls the rug out from under you.
