Killer worked with the Agent for three years. One day he took off into the emptiness of the night streets of Hong Kong. Understanding Wong Kar-wai's films is not as difficult as it seems at first glance. It's enough to stop analyzing and open up to your feelings. It's more like a dance, or a theater, where each actor wears a mask, and you have to understand his emotions by his body movements.

The killer wears the mask of a superhero, he is an unattainable dream, he is alive, strong, confident and inaccessible. His other mask is the one he invented himself - a businessman with a wife and a child, this mask is so eloquent that he doesn't need to communicate with the world around him. You present it and there are no more questions.

The agent, a lonely girl in love with Killer, wears the mask of a mysterious and romantic beauty. She is always in bright outfits and flawlessly styled hair, as if she had stepped off the runway.

They know so much about each other, they remember the smell of perfume, they feel each other at a distance, but do they need to meet?

The meeting destroys the magic of conjecture and fiction, and here the Agent sees that Killer is weak, in his character there is a desire to go with the flow, to adapt to the situation. The Agent, on the other hand, has power--that power of resentment and revenge. She, in the end, mercilessly shovels Killer's life into the trash garbage can, the same place she used to collect the rest of his garbage in their safe house when she wanted to be as close to her lover as possible.

The other character is Mute, played so heartfeltly by Takeshi Kaneshiro, such a big kid you fall in love with from the first frame. He meets his First Love, and she doesn't even notice him. I wanted to yell at her: "Open your eyes, there he is! So bright, so pure, loving his father and the whole world!" But she can't see anything around her. The mute man remains a mask for her, behind which she does not even try to see the real man, he is just an extra in her life.

And then the masks are torn off - the heroes of the movie have fallen from the sky, to which they have been swept by unrequited love, like angels, struck by an arrow of reality. There is blood on Nemoy's face, the Agent's hair is disheveled, they are no longer perfect pictures, but two lonely frozen people on a motorcycle in the big city. Will they find happiness?
