A young woman was serving time for a crime she did not commit. Moreover, it turned out that her own husband had set her up. In the turbulent '90s, Hollywood made a huge number of great movies of all kinds of genres, which ten years later you can't watch without feeling nostalgic. Even if it's a movie you only saw in grade school, it's memorable for the rest of your life, provided you love the genre, of course. 'Double Jeopardy' is one of those thrillers with a detective scenario that is easiest to compare to the unforgettable 'The Fugitive' and 'Lawmen'. The thing is that during the whole movie the main characters have to confront the system and assert their rights, and the specificity is that they do it with their intellect only, unlike the tough guys of the action movie genre.

Yes, here we are again treated to a meeting with Tommy Lee Jones, who has virtually the same role in the above three films. Apparently, the creators after the success of 'The Fugitive' immediately realized that the servants of the law in his performance almost not the most charismatic, at least in the thrillers for that time. Officer Lehmann gives the impression of a stern but fair guardian of the order, so the main character can not particularly worry. Bruce Greenwood didn't fail either, the businessman Nick turned out to be a convincing enough scoundrel. By the way, for Ashley Judd, the role of Libby is one of her best, and it's a pity that her career went downhill in the noughties. After all, 'Double Jeopardy' is a great attempt to show a strong, strong-willed woman who, despite all the obstacles and imperfections of the American legal system, will go all the way and get her way.

As a thriller, this movie is simple and trite enough. The main character's set-up by her own husband, who at one point decides to keep the money and the baby for himself by putting her in jail, is not the main point. Much more interesting is how she doesn't stop, no matter what, because that's the kind of movie that can 'inspire' a certain audience. Whatever the clichés pursued throughout, 'Double Mischief' is at a minimum a good movie with a great cast and an interesting narrative. For me, however, the most important thing is another attempt by the creators to show that striving for something and obliging to do it sooner or later helps a person stand up for himself.

In my opinion - one of the best thriller-detective movies of the 90's, and an extremely interesting role by Ashley Judd.
