The father of the three daughters, Sachi, Yoshino and Tiki, left them for another woman when they were still children. Their mother, unable to bear their father's infidelity, also left them. Sachi's older sister was left with no choice but to become the head of the family and take care of the younger ones, even though she was still in high school at the time. After 14 years, their father dies, and the three sisters come to the funeral. There they meet their half-sister, 13-year-old Suzu. Suzu's mother has long since died, and after her father's death she is left with her stepmother and estranged brother. The sisters invite Suzu to come and live with them.

Three sisters: Sati, Yoshino and Tika, who live in the same house. Each of them has her own way of looking at life, her own problems and joys. But at the same time, there is something that makes them remain the dearest to each other. They are sisters bound by a true blood love given to them from birth. The departure of their father, and then their mother, forced them to rally under the wing of the elder Sati, who literally replaced the younger one's mother. Years passed, the girls lived, almost without remembering their family sorrows. But here, dies their father, who over the years lost his wife, who once destroyed the girls' family, married a third time and now left a widow with a young son and a daughter from his second marriage. Arriving at the funeral, the sisters get to know Suzu....

Still, perhaps, blood kinship gives us at birth a reserve of love for brothers and sisters. What to do with this reserve is up to us. Some of us are able to keep a ray of love for a person with whom we spent our childhood, no matter what. Someone loses love, surrendering under the onslaught of adversity, which sometimes bring us our loved ones. But everyone should definitely try to retain a small part of that blood affection.

Sati, Yoshino, Chika and Suzu met at a time when they had lost the person who bound them together. But that didn't stop them from feeling that they were not strangers to each other. That's exactly what it felt like. Because when Suzu had offered to move into their old home in Kamakura, the girls had been motivated not by duty, but by the love that now stirred in their hearts, even though it was the first time they had ever seen their half-sister. All together they are changing, growing up together, experiencing and rejoicing together. The older ones do not associate their younger sister with the woman who destroyed their family. Meanwhile, Suzu feels her mother's guilt and apologizes to Sati. Thanks to Suzu's appearance, Sati reconsiders her life, her attitude towards her father and towards her abusive mother who ran away, leaving her younger sisters in her care. Tika learns a lot about her father, whom she barely remembers, as she was a young girl when he left the family. Yoshino simply loves Suzu, she likes to compare her to her two sisters and find similarities in appearance and personality. Together they come to the realization that no one is to blame. That they need to move on no matter what, having forgiven all their offenses and accepting the situation.

This is a touching and kind movie about women, about their actions, motives, about their troubles and joys, about love, about sisters, about family and friendship.

I don't know if I can express everything that was born in my soul while watching this movie, but it is too personal. I guess, in general, it's the joy of realizing that since the writers came up with such a story, since Koreeda-san made such a wonderful film, it means that there is such a thing. The same sisterhood, the same love and friendship between sisters, albeit with a lot of mistakes and mistakes, small and big offenses, fights over a blouse or disobedience and unwillingness to give in. Pain that changes people, joy that pushes them to do real things, love that makes them forgive and move forward, memories that help you stop and think, understand, forgive.

Watch this movie. There is much to learn here because it shows the sorrows that many endure. Maybe, as an additional consolation, this movie will help us to cope with some difficulties ourselves.
