Director Sam Raimi, to be honest, has been disappointing me lately. I didn't see in his films, which came out already in the new century, any characteristic trait, anything pointed. These pictures were high-budgeted, but they didn't explode emotionally. Qualitatively and statistically.

But remembering his earlier works, I decided to watch his movie, dated the premiere in 1998. I confess that I had never heard of this movie. Most likely, this is due to the fact that that year on the screens came out not a few pictures that became real hits not only in 98th, but the whole decade. In addition, it was clearly influenced by the fact that the main roles were involved seemingly famous, but not 'star' actors.

The main role was played by Bill Paxton. In his career has already been the main characters, but these pictures did not reach the level of popular among the audience. A good actor, but in his biography he did not have a climactic movie. In the movie 'A Simple Plan' he plays the most learned and socially well-off man in a circle of three friends. It was his brain that was supposed to thwart several heinous crimes, but greed trumped all reasonable actions. But I can't say he performed anything superbly. It's just a scripted role, no frills. Not bad, but no more.

The wife of the protagonist, who verbally turned out to be an instigator, performed Bridget Fonda. This actress, who grew up in an honored acting family, and could not find himself and has long not starred in something new. Probably the role in 'Simple Plan' was one of the best in her career, after the movie 'Kiss of the Dragon'. But then again, she played here as unambiguously as her partner. So judge for yourself why Bridget Fonda didn't make it to the 'stars'.

And who deserves attention is Billy Bob Thornton. I absolutely agree with the movie critics who nominated him for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar. Billy Bob Thornton, in a way, gracefully played a man who was stuck with his own problems, and when fate gave him a chance to get out, he went to any steps to achieve the goal. His, you could say, a short-tempered lover to drink is the most memorable character. His psychology actor brought just to the brink of genius played this role.

The picture itself came out perfectly calibrated as a psychological drama, equally sharing with the thriller genre. I would even call 'Simple Plan' a parable, when lies, crime, greed come together and what it can result in.

Fans of the genre are advised to watch this movie.
