Review 4K Movie

The story of hereditary clairvoyant Annie Wilson (Cate Blanchett), who makes the best of her supernatural efforts to help the police of a small provincial town in their search for the murderer of a girl from a wealthy family. Quite a nice piece of cinema from Sam Raimi, the master of putting mystical ominous fog wherever his talented directorial hand does not reach out.

‘The Gift’, of course, is not a horror film, the director did not think to scare the viewer with spectacular scenes, having made a genre bias towards the development of a certain detective component. The only thing that can make you shudder once is the scenes with the murdered heroine Katie Holmes, when she appeared to Cate Blanchett in her visions with a blown out eye and a twisted mouth. That vision was creepy, it was creepy. If Tom Cruise had been lucky enough to see this footage with Katie, I think he would not be in a hurry to get married.

Without developing the spectacularly frightening plot line, Sam Raimi decided to throw the viewer with detective puzzles, in the elaboration of which, unfortunately, the screenwriters tried after a sleeve. In the film there are many important characters (almost half a town), all with their own cockroaches in their heads and skeletons in the wardrobe. All the images, of course, were created and elaborated with the purpose of intriguing us with the question of the identity of the killer. But a sophisticated viewer, with careful viewing, paying attention to the manners of behaviour and conversations of the heroes, in about forty minutes will understand who it is that made up the terrible and bloody crime.

At the same time, there are very significant positive moments in the film, which allow to estimate Raimi's work on well with plus. It is successfully sustained mystical atmosphere of the tape, in the creation of which Sam Raimi has always been a great craftsman, and a powerful acting ensemble, the work of which is love-expensive to watch. In general, the actors and save the film, not much intriguing its detective plot and does not seek to bring the viewer in awe of any spectacular techniques.

Cate Blanchett is certainly a stunning actress, a woman of unearthly beauty and possessor of immense talent. I would give her the Oscars in all categories at once for ten years to come. Very emotionally and passionately, outwardly very spectacular and generally very effectively performed the main role, presenting us with a whole gamut of immaculately executed human experience. In this regard, almost all of the large operator plans in the film ‘The Gift’ belong to Cate Blanchett, the director justifiably made a tangible emphasis on them.

Giovanni Ribisi made a very good impression, playing in the usual impulsive manner of a mentally unstable boy. Unstoppable extrovert on the screen Ribisi created a beautiful contrasting duet with a slightly melancholic and restrained Cate Blanchett.

All the actors were generally good. And the unshaven brute, beating women Keanu Reeves, and epathetic in its flashy appearance Hillary Swank and Gregg Kinnear, hypnotising the viewer with his trademark look of a beaten puppy.

Bottom line: remarkable collective performance artistry against a weak and predictable script.
