Writer Thomas Harris made a name for himself by describing the crimes of the fictional maniac Hannibal Lecter, who was especially fond of cooking, while not forgetting to add human remains to his dishes. Such a nightmarish killer became Harris's trademark because he gave him a unique personality. The first time Lecter got from the pages to film was in the mid-80s, where he was played by Brian Cox. But that film was forgotten. But the subsequent after him "Silence of the Lambs" by Jonathan Demme turned out to be a real masterpiece.

The main character of the film is special agent Clarissa Starling, who has just graduated from the FBI academy and is about to take on her first case. Despite the fact that she is not as strong as her male colleagues, Starling achieved excellent results during her studies, thanks to which she is noticed by serious bumps from the FBI, who need to catch another dangerous maniac as soon as possible. Miss Starling has a special role to play in this investigation.

To catch the killer, you need to get advice from an equally cruel maniac, who turns out to be Hannibal Lecter, who is in custody. The former medical doctor does not want to have intimate conversations with anyone, but when he saw Clarissa, he became seriously interested in her, considering the girl not only innocent, but also a very promising interlocutor. It is only in conversations with the killer that it is most important to notice when he is telling the truth, and when he is frolicking, because the success of the entire investigation depends on this.

The biggest intrigue of the film revolves around the psychological conversations of Starling and Lecter, although Dr. Hannibal himself has at most 14-20 minutes of screen time. But look at the fiery eyes of Anthony Hopkins, who literally slashes Clarissa with his gaze! Agent Starling herself is not a mistake either, because she was played by Jodie Foster, who has already appeared in Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver, thereby establishing herself in a serious role from a young age. And I think that Hopkins and Foster were rightfully awarded the Oscars for their roles.

The maniac everyone is looking for was played in The Silence of the Lambs by Ted Levine. It turned out very strange and frightening for him. His image turned out to be stupidly repulsive. Hannibal Lecter, of course, is also not a gift, but he pulls like a magnet to him. But Buffalo Bill wants to be executed right on the spot, because there is nothing to talk about with him, he cannot be understood and forgiven.

Jonathan Demme's thriller is firmly entangled in history. They continue to talk about him, he is quoted, he is admired. For its time, The Silence of the Lambs was an undoubted breakthrough. Now it is a classic that cannot be disrespected.
