Popular California DJ Dave is constantly getting phone calls from a sexy female voice asking him to put on a song. Soon he meets a female fan at his favorite night spot, and they begin a love affair. By directing his first feature film, Clint Eastwood began the ongoing adventurous gushing song that would run through virtually every film story Eastwood would later tell in his directorial works.

It was this film that would lay a foundation of sorts, ensuring that where Clint would direct, he would also be the actor playing the lead role, or one and one.

In ‘Play Misty for Me’ we see a rather angsty and sensitive story, about a disc jockey Dave (Clint Eastwood) who has fallen victim to love. A love that bred madness. Madness that bred blood.

For a directorial debut, this is quite a strong, mature, interesting film, with good camerawork, sustained musical accompaniment, and not bad acting.

Minuses naturally there are. To them it is possible to refer overplaying of actors, not at all depressing for films of those years, a phenomenon which, in principle, does not cut the eyes, but occasionally ‘gives voice’.

Further it is necessary to note insufficient musicality of the film. The main character is a disc-jockey working on the radio, and there are no memorable motifs heard in the film. It would have been nice to have a good blues composer here. ‘Live’ music the film really lacks.

Basically, this is the end of the minuses, and we are presented with a light, high-quality film, Clint Eastwood's first creation, the viewing of which is obligatory even to know how to start the director's journey to continue it beautifully.
