Review 4K Movie

Spanish horror thriller about losing self-control and becoming a maniac because of fear. A mundane twist in an accidental murder entails the disclosure of insanity in a very violent incarnation. The protagonist manages to kill another curious person every day, trying to unravel the bloody secret, and takes the corpses to a meat-packing plant, putting human meat in the cutlets.

The opening scene is perhaps the most memorable of the whole movie. It is a documentary test of endurance, consisting of footage of the killing and butchering of animals in the factory. The cinema of the seventies always liked to make the main evil not something mystical, monstrous or alien, but the common man himself, making the friendly strangers into obsessive maniacs, the attempts to have fun into acts of violence with a lot of corpses, and the simplest people into violent insanity, psychosis and serial murders. In the scene of slaughtering cattle for meat, this unjustifiable human cruelty spills out in the naturalistic nature of its manifestations, pushing the central idea as a pivot through the rest of the film's events.

The variety of killing methods, from strangulation to cleavers, was adopted by the slasher genre, and putting the killer with all his cockroaches in his head at the center of the plot was once a very popular technique, but by the mid-eighties the focus had shifted to the victims or police inspectors. Here in the picture of the 73rd year there is an opportunity to admire the full path of formation of the killer, his problems and experiences on various occasions.

The naturalism and realism of what is happening is regularly reinforced by some regular antics, or at least a passionate erotic scene. The search for the animal beginning in human nature leads to three elementary instincts - to rape, to kill and to eat. True, even despite the updated title of 'Killer Week' in the American box office - 'Cannibal Man', the main character is not only not eager to eat his victims, but also after learning that the soup contains the very meat from the factory, is tormented by bouts of nausea and madness. So fans of cannibalism have nothing to catch in the picture, and Freud's psychoanalytics is not elevated to an absurd visual feast of savagery of a manic madman.

Apart from the protagonist, all the others are either unnecessary tinsel for the background, or the next future victims who somehow find out about the room with dismembered bodies. The only exception is a man who is always spying on and befriending the central character, who is clearly non-traditional and imposes his friendship and society on the central character.

The movie is too simple and linear, which in principle is not to its disadvantage, but only one of the characteristics, but the moments of tension, which you watch with interest, are present in very small quantities, predictability sometimes tires you, and without interesting characters and the script does not cause proper immersion.

It turned out to be a standard and not bad thriller, which you can watch with sympathy to the genre, and which you will surely like, if you do not expect anything particularly outstanding. Such a movie can scare only one thing - the thought that at some meat-packing plant there is exactly the same man who brings to the processing shop the bodies of his dismembered victims. And that the hamburger or sausage we eat may even contain human meat. Due to its reality of what is happening on the screen, without dodging into philosophy, psychology or relationship drama, the picture emphasizes more ordinary, but no less creepy things of everyday life. It is better not to stick your nose into some rooms, and it is better not to think about the composition of delicious food.
