I'll answer the question right away - why was “Last Cannibal World” released in 1977 and “Cannibal ferox” a few years later? Elementary, the movie is called “Last Cannibal World”. It was simply screwed with the number 3, supposedly the third part (since the number 2 went to Lenzi's “Eaten Alive”). No connection whatsoever!

Speaking of old man Lenzi. If rumors are to be believed, Last Cannibal World was supposed to be directed by him. I already wrote something similar in my review of “Eaten Alive”. In short - it didn't work out, Deodato sat in the director's chair. Hand on heart, thank God Lenzi's directing is not up to Ruggiero's level.

I liked it! Especially the second half. Tough, lively, honest (a little confused by the behavior of the heroine Mi Mi Lai, apparently cannibals have some feelings other than hunger, a-ha-ha) and extremely interesting cannibal film. Deodato for the first time tried to cross adventure film with horror, it turned out fascinating.

I also want to emphasize the actor Massimo Foschi, who played Robert Harper. Plus, Ivan Rassimov was good in the background. Why was the movie underrated? I don't know, it's hard to say. It's all Deodato's own fault, who would make the scandalous Cannibal Hell a couple years later. In other words, he overshadowed his own movie. Italian directors will start releasing cannibal films in droves.

That's a little offensive. “Last Cannibal World” is not so extreme in contrast to the original ‘Hell’, let it (although bloody sketches with animals are present, as in all cannibal films of the time). Yes and it is outdated purely visually, some scenes (especially in the cave) are overly dark. It needs restoration.

In any case - a cool picture about survival. Simple (in terms of script), but still entertaining.
