Nowadays, thanks to Tarantino and Rodriguez, watching Russ Meyer's movies is not so mauvais. Although there are still some “art-house lovers” who pompously wrinkle their noses at the mention of this director. But it was snobbery, hypocrisy and sanctimony that were the main targets of Mayer's creative bombardment. It was with this three-headed dragon, deeply and firmly entrenched both in Hollywood itself and in the personalities who consume its products in movie theaters, the director fought.

Undoubtedly, Russ Meyer's movies can be taken (as it often happens) as propaganda of violence, promiscuity, racism and other human vices. But in fact, the guru of sexploitation very subtly, like a shitting kitten, pokes his viewer with his face in a puddle, with a smile repeating: “Who here is without sin?”. Sometimes in these situations kittens crawl away resentfully in complete incomprehension. Many don't like it, but everyone remembers it.

The movie “Mehera”, released in 1968, at the height of the Cold War and the Vietnam War, was in this regard a kind of quintessence of the author's work. We are shown incest, elements of communist aggression, fascist symbols. And in the center of all this ugliness is the two-faced Mehera with a complete rejection of any sexual taboos.

In fact, Meyer showed us in her image of a modern Mary Magdalene, her most sensible, probably, embodiment in cinema. The difference is that today's Mary is quite capable of standing up for herself: “Okay! Stone me! But let he who is without sin cast the first stone. Otherwise, stare at my breasts and don't say a word!”. Not only that, but she is a militant Magdalena, ready to fight for her right to receive pleasure, knowing how to get this pleasure and ready to share this knowledge with everyone around her.

Perhaps a little analysis of this work will seem undeservedly deep, and the whole aesthetic of Russ's movie is just about beautiful boobs, firm thighs and thin waists. Well. In that case, watch and enjoy. The movie's worth it. But think about it, maybe you were dipped in your puddle after all, and you still didn't understand anything.
