After watching The Breakfast Club, I became seriously interested in 1980s cinema. St. Elmo's Fire was the first film I watched after The Breakfast Club. I chose it because it starred Judd Nelson, whose filmography I had studied extensively. After watching the first few minutes of this film, I realized that almost the entire Breakfast Club cast had smoothly transitioned into this film! It was like meeting good friends after a long separation. Plus, I was pleasantly surprised to see young Demi Moore and Rob Lowe.

“I thought we were friends forever. Eternity turned out to be much shorter.”

No, youth films of the 80s have their own unique atmosphere: an atmosphere of freedom, rebellion, and eternal youth. Such films evoke the brightest emotions: smiles, tears, laughter. And most importantly, such films are very life-affirming. Seriously, after watching such films, you want to live. You simply begin to understand that true friendship, like true love, exists. And that, roughly speaking, is all a person needs.

It's strange that “The Breakfast Club” became a cult classic, but “St. Elmo's Fire” did not. After all, the latter is in no way inferior to the former. They are both absolutely wonderful and worth watching, perhaps even more than once. It's a shame that “St. Elmo's Fire” is unknown to the general public.

Seven friends—Billy, Jules, Kevin, Leslie, Kirby, Kevin, and Wendy. Each one made you love them. Whether it's the wayward “eternal child” Billy, wearing a crazy cool earring and looking like a rock star, or the virgin Wendy, desperately in love with Billy, or the mischievous lady Jules, or Kevin, in love with his friend Alec's girlfriend, Leslie — they were all so natural while watching the film that I believed they all existed. I felt like I was part of them, part of their friendship. And I worried about them as if they were my friends. It is for this sincerity that I love two films from the 1980s. And I intend to find a couple more.

St. Elmo's Fire is a light, cheerful, and kind film about true friendship. So don't miss your chance to get acquainted with American cinema of the 80s.
