Newlyweds Shane and June Brown come to Paris for their honeymoon. But Shane's thoughts are far from romance - he became a victim of reckless experiments of French doctor Leo Semeno, who studied the peculiarities of sexual desire in people, as a result of which he now wants to eat his wife. He hopes to find the scientist, but fate confronts him with Cora, Leo's wife, who is afflicted with the same terrible disease.

This is not a horror film. It is a genre deception in the form of a script twist, which is openly presented as nothing more than a provocative bait. All means are good, as long as the viewer stays glued to the screen.

All this nonsense with cannibalism on erotic grounds is nothing more than a pursuit of thrills. People have forgotten what love is, everyone is striving for pleasure and will stop at nothing to get it. There are no limits to fantasy, and there will always be a regiment of enthusiasts for any sick attack. All this is presented clearly and comprehensively through the example of two couples, each of which has one ‘sick’ partner. Relationships are dead, replaced by patience, humility, illusions bordering on self-deception, and great, unnecessary self-sacrifice. People no longer seek family life; they have no time for it, as they must satisfy their lustful fantasies.

The atmosphere of the film reminded me very much of Sartre's novel Nausea. The same hopelessness and absolute satisfaction with the state of affairs. More precisely, the unwillingness to change anything, simply a statement of fact.

Still, there were a couple of bloody scenes, in keeping with the stated genre. They are permeated with lust, without a hint of eroticism, and a thirst for satisfaction, even if it is with the flesh of a partner.

I would not recommend watching this film; I found it boring, drawn out, and emotionally bland. But it is important to remember that everyone has different tastes, and the film is not without meaning and even charm.
