After successfully completing a job, Walker is betrayed by his partner, Reese. Two years later, Walker—whom everyone believes to be dead—returns and begins to carry out his plan for revenge, attempting to recover the $93,000 that was stolen from him. Released by MGM, the seemingly straightforward thriller *Point Blank* was hailed as a classic just twenty years later, and directors such as Martin Scorsese drew inspiration from it. In the year of its release, John Boorman’s film was not warmly received. Most likely, this was due to the fact that the film contained a fair amount of violence, to which American audiences were not accustomed. Moreover, aside from its immense suspense, the film was quite complex in its narrative structure. An American classic noir with elements of the “European New Wave” simply cannot be limited to just the “action” sequences, which are quite good here.

We are introduced to Walker—a mysterious figure portrayed by the great American actor Lee Marvin. The film’s main mystery is whether the protagonist was even still alive at the beginning of the film. Perhaps he was shot at Alcatraz after all, and everything that happens is nothing more than a hallucination, a thought of revenge that cannot be realized. This idea is supported by the enigmatic ending. In short, John Boorman has left enough mysteries for the viewer to ponder.
