Review 4K Movie

I consider this film a successful adaptation of the work by A. and B. Strugatsky. Of course, the director focused only on the main plotline and omitted certain characters, including one particularly colorful one. Moreover, I had imagined some of the characters differently. And did A. Tarkovsky’s *Stalker* really feature that same R. Shukhart? And how much of the original is left in it at all? No, but nevertheless, it is a brilliant auteur film that completely reimagines the original plot. By the way, both films were made in 1979, which is quite unusual. The adaptation itself is practically unknown here (correct me if I’m wrong). It’s probably because film critics preferred Andrei Tarkovsky’s *Stalker*

But what if we watch the film as if we hadn’t read the book? Then the film is practically exactly what I described in the title of my review.

Excellent music, magnificent panoramic shots, a masterful interplay of light and shadow, and the landscapes visible through the windows against the backdrop of the main characters’ conversations. And just look at how the avalanche at the end of the film is shot!

The film is full of psychological moments that today would be described with the trendy term “psychedelic,” and combined with the camera, which seems to follow the main character constantly, creating a sense of “action,” they keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. All of this and much more creates an atmosphere of mystery and something unfathomable.

The acting is very solid, but the main character—Inspector P. Glebski—was particularly well-played. In terms of appearance and performance, in my unprofessional opinion, it’s a 100% hit; you have to admit, not everyone can portray inner turmoil. Watch the ending—doubts about the rightness of the action remain; you can see it in his facial expressions and, most importantly, in his gaze. And I don’t think this is just my imagination.

The film’s ending, in my opinion, is also like the Strugatskys’—who is right and who is wrong in this situation is something everyone decides for themselves!
