Story Movie
The summer solstice is an ancient holiday, which in all cultures is shrouded in a mystical halo. In a Swedish settlement cut off from the civilized world, unique rites with a centuries-old tradition are held on this day. This is where a group of young American anthropological students sets off, taking with them the girl of one of them. However, soon after arrival, friends find out that local rituals are far from harmless. Where to download 4k content Midsommar UltraHD.
Review 4K Movie
I was thinking about it for a long time, and still decided to write a review of the second film by American director Ari Astaire under the wonderful title “Midsommar 4K”. The name of the film is really beautiful and alluring, but its content, in my opinion, is not as bright as I would like. As you probably already know, I pretty much love horror films, however, with the so-called “new wave” of horror movies, from which many people write boiling water, to put it mildly, I’m not happy and already told why, in the review of the film “ We are Jordan Saw. I get the feeling that basically those who admire these new horror just did not watch horror films before and did not know that much had already happened before Ari Astaire and the company.
Back to the Solstice. The picture lasts two and a half hours with captions and develops very slowly. Moreover, this applies not only to the exposition, but also to the film as a whole. I really am not a fan of long canvases, and I think that the best time is the good old one and a half to two hours. Otherwise, the rest of the timing should be justified, and not just stretched, supposedly to create the atmosphere necessary for the director. In the film, as for me, there should be events, and not beautiful empty and optional shots, of which there have been a lot in recent years. The same thing happens with Ari Aster and his cameraman Pavel Pogorzhelsky (by the way, he also shot Reincarnation).
“Midsommar UHD” in its plot is not very different from typical youth horror movies in which a group of teenagers goes to ... (substitute anything to your taste: an abandoned old house, a pioneer camp, or, as here, in the outback of Sweden, where a certain pagan commune lives ) Therefore, it is easy to guess that all this will not end in good. And this is the main trouble of this picture. The fact is that Aster, as it were, is making a film about something else, about the toxic relationship of the girl Dani and her boyfriend Christian, who, by the will of a tragic incident, ended up together on this trip. If it were not for the death of Dany’s relatives, then Christian would most likely have left her and left for Sweden only with friends. But it is not exactly. Indeed, modern men, like small children, do not know what they want and do not want to make decisions. So, in any case, the director argues. But be that as it may, the Swedish pagans still come to the fore, with their cult, to which the director pays a lot of attention, emphasizing various trifles and details, and the viewer first of all wants to know how the pagan tourists will end up in the confrontation and who will return home. In this regard, such a long escalation of horror and the gradual disappearance of one or another tourist looks too artificial, and is served almost like a revelation.
As banal as it may seem, Midsommar 2160p reminded me of Mysterious Forest by M. Night Shyamalan and, of course, Robin Hardy's cult rural horror The Wicker Man of 1974. True, these two pictures are much stronger, worse and deeper. And the Swedish pagans from the Solstice can be compared with many religious sects that flourish in the United States, and luring all kinds of people into their clutches with their sweet speeches. This is perhaps one of the advantages of the picture. The most important advantage of the film is that Aster transfers the action from the typical night horror to the horrific dazzling Scandinavian sun. All horror happens during the day, in front of everyone. Nevertheless, this is still not the director’s discovery, and this has already happened in horror films before.
I understand that with my point of view on Midsommar 4K, as a pretentious horror movie, I will be in the minority, but even after reading the opinions of various respected critics, I can not call this picture good. What they praise her for and what they try to find in her seems to me too primitive and far-fetched. Not such a renaissance of horror films I expected.
