The story is set in the present day in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. The film’s plot is based on real events that took place in 1966–67. A Washington Post reporter, having survived a personal tragedy (the death of his wife), inexplicably travels hundreds of miles in just an hour and a half and ends up in a godforsaken little town. Upon arrival, he immediately finds himself at the center of a whirlwind of inexplicable events and phenomena. Unraveling mysteries, prophecies, and an encounter with the unknown—these are the few things that await our hero.

The film’s plot is uneven, yet at the same time cohesive and consistent. After watching it several times, it seemed to me that I had finally understood what Indrit Cole wanted to “say”: “I took from you the one without whom you could not be, and in return I gave you another!” Indeed, the film begins with the One He loved and ends with the One He came to love...

Do the higher powers want to warn us, or would it be more accurate to ask: do They want to warn us in order to save us!? That is the central theme of this film.

Whether the film is based on real events or not, in my opinion, isn’t all that important. The main thing present in the film is an atmosphere of mystery and, at times, bone-chilling horror, underscored by the cinematography and sound design. The sound and music tracks, chosen with great flair, evoke a sense of oppression. The actors’ performances are flawless and top-notch.
