A young man arrives at a charming, cozy little house to rent a room and meets the owners’ underage daughter, who literally captivates him. Sound familiar? Yes, yes—Nabokov, *Lolita*, and Humbert. But you’re wrong! ‘Infatuation’ or ‘Fatal Infatuation’ (in some translations)—that’s the movie! Once again, the bountiful ’90s delight us!

Nick Elliot, a successful journalist, rents a guesthouse from a charming couple. There, he meets their beautiful daughter, Adrian, who looks much older than her 14 years and is physically stunning. She’s beautiful, smart, athletic, spiritual… and, as it turns out, “a bit off.” The slight twist lies in Adrian’s obsession with adult men. So Nick ends up being next on her list. She sets up altars where she worships his persona, tries to seduce him, and eliminates her rivals. And when she realizes that Elliot is unyielding, she takes brutal revenge on him and tries to discredit him in the public eye.

An excellent thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat until the very end. I thoroughly enjoyed following the development of the main characters’ relationship. In terms of the intensity of the drama, I think it’s comparable to films like ‘The Lovers’, ‘Poison Ivy’, and other movies where the main characters turn into “creatures” consumed by jealousy.

Wait a minute—or is it just me, or do these cute nymphet girls and their brutal revenge on their “lovers” represent a new level of thriller mania, one that’s overtaken ghosts, killers, vampires, and monsters?

A stunning debut by Hollywood starlet (at the time, of course) Alicia Silverstone (‘The Blast from the Past’, ‘Batman & Robin’). Her face conveys a whole spectrum of emotions, ranging from contempt and romance to hatred and submission. All of this turns into an obsession, a mania. “Everyone thinks I’m weird—it’s so hard for me to make friends!” the girl laments to her older friend. And no wonder, folks! With such sadistic tendencies! I read that critics tore *Obsession* to shreds but didn’t dare touch Silverstone. In my opinion, both the actress and the film itself are worth watching and deserve respect.
