A film that offers true aesthetic pleasure. The slow, almost static scenes allow us to examine the textures of the walls, faces, and wet asphalt. This is a meditative film. It’s as if we’re looking at photographs from a gloomy past: the camera glides from one character to another, from wall to wall.

There is little dialogue here; it consists mainly of monologues, often not directly related to what is happening: a woman in the rain reading a passage from the Bible, the protagonist’s account of his girlfriend’s suicide, and stories told by a singer in a bar.

The film’s leitmotif is stray dogs roaming in the rain. They resemble the protagonist—it’s no coincidence that at the end of the film we see him on all fours, barking at a stray dog.

It rains throughout the entire film. Wet asphalt, wet walls, the wet floor at the “Titanic” bar, the characters’ wet clothes. A man dancing in the rain.

A film without a specific plot, but about a very specific feeling. “The fog chills the skin and penetrates the soul.”
