In our life, unexpected meetings can occur at any moment, which can lead us to sharp turns in life, or bring nothing new. For some, such a meeting can bring friends, fame, respect, and for others, disappointment, loss and anger. The most important thing is that this meeting can happen at any moment in our life. So, a boy named Oliver Twist could not have imagined that an unexpected meeting with a gang of young thieves would help him find real happiness.

Plot

The film tells the story of an orphan boy named Oliver Twist. He was born and spent his early years in a workhouse, where he was forced into cruel and forced labor in conditions of hunger and humiliation. But one offense changes everything when Oliver finds himself in the family of an undertaker, from where after a while he fled to London in search of happiness. Once in this reckless city, Oliver finds himself in a friendly family of thieves, run by the old professional thief Fagin. Together with these pickpockets, Oliver will be embroiled in a series of adventures that will help him find a real family.

Acting

Thanks to the talent of director Carol Reed, unique and memorable characters were embodied on the screen, in the creation of which, of course, the actors played an important role. Ron Moody, who played the role of old Fagin, embodied an unusual character on the screen, who appears to be both a mentor and a philosopher, but also a cunning and cunning thief. I also remember the role of Shane Wallis, who played Nancy, a former student of Fagin, who turns out to be a decent and very kind girl who paid for her kindness with her life. Of the thieves, of course, the most memorable role was the role of the young, but already talented actor Jack Wilde, who played the Artful Dodger, an intelligent boy beyond his years.

Directing

Caryl Reed really showed all his talent with this film. First, as already mentioned, he achieved the maximum quality of acting from the actors. Most importantly, the characters created under his control cannot be called typical heroes of children's fairy tales. His characters are adults, people who are serious about life. Secondly, the film turned out to be a very effective children's musical, which is simply saturated with music. Finally, and this is important, "Oliver!" introduces the viewer to Victorian England, in which the features of the feudal order still remained.

Scenario

Not surprisingly, the film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay, as the writers not only managed to bring the book's content to the screen, but also juxtaposed it to the musical genre. To be honest, in my opinion, the musical "Oliver Twist" looks much better, because it manages to convey the atmosphere of the film. However, despite this, I was still confused by the simplicity of the plot. Such a kind boy suddenly turns out to be the great-nephew of a gentleman whom he almost robbed? In my opinion, this is too deliberate.

Outcome

"Oliver!" - a very solid musical, really a classic of the genre, which will impress someone with its bright performances or its cool twisted plot that amazes the imagination. The stunning performance of the actors, as well as various technical and artistic features of the film, will be remembered for a long time by the viewer.
