Stalingrad 4K 1993 GERMAN Ultra HD 2160p
Winter 1942. The Sixth Army of the Wehrmacht is fighting in Stalingrad, destroyed to the foundation. A platoon of elite German soldiers, who lost more than half of their personnel in the very first battle, are fighting a desperate struggle for survival.

The whistle of bullets and the roar of Katyushas, hunger and cold bring them to the brink of madness. Almost nothing keeps the soldier on the thin line between life and death. After all that they saw, after the loss of all ideals, the Fuhrer's call to "stand to the end" takes on a completely different, much more terrible meaning for them ...

Review 4K Movie

I would like to immediately note that this film by the German director Josef Vilsmayer is fundamentally different from all Western (and domestic) films about the most terrible tragedy of all times and peoples - the Second World War.

First of all, this is noticeable by the fact that the director treated his creation as closely and carefully as possible, adhering to the realities of those terrible events, not trying to somehow politicize his picture, trying to show it honestly and as close to reality as possible. For example, this is a rare example of Western military cinematography, where Soviet soldiers are shown not as bloodthirsty murderers from the NKVD shooting at their backs, but as soldiers actually fighting for their families, homes and homeland.

But the main place in the narrative is occupied by a group of German soldiers, who are also shown not as beasts, but as young guys, driven to slaughter by soulless generals and the cruel Nazi regime. The atmosphere in the film scares with its piercing tragedy more powerful than any horror film and shows us a real hell on earth, all the fear and horror of this terrible tragedy grows more and more with each scene, and by the end there is a feeling of bitterness and light melancholy. Many scenes are truly masterpieces. For example, I very much remember the scene with the temporary ceasefire in order to take the wounded, and how the Soviet and German soldiers hand each other bread and water. Yes, they are enemies on the battlefield, but they are young guys who want to live, each of whom has humanity in their souls, which in the film is alienated only by higher-ranking German commanders, who will stop at nothing for the sake of a higher rank, will send soldiers like meat , to the front line, and themselves, like one of the generals, in case of the slightest danger, they will crawl on their knees and beg for mercy.

Trying to be objective, I, nevertheless, do not find any drawbacks in this picture and I consider it a must-see for everyone who loves this genre. The picture is objectively better stuffed with special effects and nonsense of the 2013 Bondarchuk tape of the same name. A film with high-quality cinematography, good cast (leading actor, Thomas Kretschmann, later will play in Bondarchuk's work), as well as music.
