Review 4K Movie

'To Kill a Mockingbird' is an adaptation of the famous novel by American author Harper Lee about the trial of a black man accused of raping and brutally beating a young white girl. The picture very clearly highlights the fact that despite the fact that in the late 1862 Lincoln era the Emancipation Proclamation was signed, and later, after his assassination in late 1865 the banning of slavery was enshrined in the 13th amendment to the US Constitution, racial misunderstandings never disappeared, but only worsened. And in fact they are still an unresolved problem, primarily because of the 'racially motivated crime' laws, the existence of which makes it impossible to put a fat end to this bloody history.

The picture is exquisite in its own way because besides the process itself, the description of which the viewer will not see until the end of the picture, there is a second storyline - about the children of Atticus Finch, who cannot get rid of a certain Scarecrow who lives in a house nearby and who is considered by all the townspeople to be a dangerous psychopath. It should be noted that watching the children play provides indescribable pleasure - such a relaxed, naturalness, that many modern, especially children's paintings, one can only look with skepticism. So Mary Badham, who plays the part of the lawyer's youngest daughter, is simply a jewel in the picture. It is amusing that her nickname 'Scout' in the domestic adaptation was translated as 'oculist' instead of the proper 'scout', but the first one anyway sounds somehow better. Also pleased with Phillip Alford, who played the eldest son. And it's a pity that both young talents have not become famous actors in the future, and they have only a few more films to their credit.

And, of course, Gregory Peck, who played the leading part, is splendid. And he reckons this role is the best one in his career. It is interesting, that his character, Atticus Finch, was recognized as the most positive hero of 20th century cinema, and, in fact, he deserves the title. Of course, it's a little disconcerting to have Indiana Jones and James Bond in the subsequent places - after all, they are characters on a completely different level. And maybe you should not put a fighter for justice, a man who said what others did not want, and most importantly did not want to listen, along with entertaining non-serious characters. However, that is another story.

It is important to imagine, for better assimilation of the picture, what is actually a mockingbird. And this is actually a very beautiful, and most importantly a unique bird which can exactly repeat the sounds it hears. It is simply a unique spectacle, and even the most talkative parrots are not capable of delivering such indescribable pleasure. So it is not surprising that killing a mockingbird was considered a sin. After all, it is just a bird that is designed to entertain us and bring a little bit of happiness into our lives. In the picture, there are analogies of the characters in action with this bird. Namely, the accused Tom Robinson, who only took pity on the white girl. And it is interesting how the audience perceives this fact - 'So you, a black man! and you feel sorry for the white lady?

The second bird turned out to be the Scarecrow, whom people also perceived as not being who he really was. And here we find another analogy, between two mockingbirds - between a black man and a man who is revered as a ruthless murderer and psychopath. Both would have had no chance in the courts of the day, for whatever truth Atticus Finch told, society was not prepared to listen to him. And the only difference between the two was that one bird was killed. And the other was set free...

In the end, we have before us an excellent example of intelligent, unhurried cinema with a brilliant acting, which in our time is found less and less often. Bravo!
