Review 4K Movie

1939. Director John Ford directs the great movie "Stagecoach," producing the perfect western hero. Twenty-three years later, he would create an epitaph to that era and to his creation.

Well, it's about time they met on the narrow path of life. Meet legendary outlaw Liberty Valance (Lee Marvin), plucky cowboy Tom Doniphon (John Wayne) and the new face of the Wild West - young lawyer Ransom Stoddard (James Stewart). If they had appeared on screen a little earlier, the audience would have had no doubts about the balance of power. But not this time.

Wellan is so self-confident that he doesn't even pay much attention to the worthless lawman who witnesses the stagecoach robbery. He's a pity about the bullets. Nor does the brave Doniphon take any notice of the wimpy scientist who cannot properly shoot. But it is the young man, who seems to have accidentally gotten into the Western, who is destined to become the driving force behind the whole story.

The villain loses his power over the people of the town. The hero, with his archaic ways, dims and gradually recedes into the background. His ability to gallop around the clock, to shoot without aiming and to survive under any conditions - all of a sudden it turns out to be no more than... a hobby, to put it in modern parlance.

The Western needs new heroes. John Ford understood this as he bid farewell to an era that had lasted almost a quarter of a century. I don't know how John Wayne felt about that. Maybe he liked the words of one of the secondary characters in the film: "Even when a legend is not confirmed, it still lives on.
