Review 4K Movie

Once again I was convinced that most of the brilliant movie stories are as simple as five kopecks. And once again I am convinced that there are films that you just have to watch solely because of the actors who play in them.

Thanks to a skilful scriptwriter, director and brilliant cast, an absolutely ordinary, at first sight, story turns into a little masterpiece which one wants to watch again and again.
So what is this movie about?

We see the story of writer Melvin Yudell, who has a whole bunch of phobias and oddities (fear of germs, nervous gait, impulsive gesticulation) - a neurotic who hates people and prefers to live alone with himself in his apartment. By chance, he is forced to temporarily take his neighbor's dog, and this causes an absolutely unexpected metamorphosis in the grumpy, snarky pest, both for him and for others... I think it would be better to describe the film by analyzing its characters.

So, in the center of the story is the inimitable Jack Nicholson, an actor who, in my deep conviction, is able to pull almost any middling movie to the highest level. And then there is a competent director, which led Jack to the third, absolutely deserved Oscar.

Nicholson has created a surprisingly interesting, multifaceted and complex character. It has everything: and comic habits and phobias, often causing a smile; and sharp quotes, which give the film a spice, and the drama of a lonely man who finds common ground only with the neighbor's dog ... I can't get tired of admiring Nicholson's acting talent: his over-the-top charisma, his type of charming asshole, and all his characters, regardless of whether they are positive or negative, you love from the first to the last second of the movie.

Nicholson was Helen Hunt, and the duo they have to say, came out great! It would seem that may attract a type like Melvin Yudell used to be afraid of life, and at first unprepared to take positive turns of fate, waitress Carol Connelly. Loving mother, tired of the emptiness of his life, she initially did not want to let her life eccentric, apathetic writer, but in the end, the two lonely souls after a long game of cat and mouse finally found each other ...

And to understand each other and understand their feelings, the main characters are helped by Greg Kinnear's character, the sentimental gay artist Simon. His life falls apart literally overnight, and he loses practically everything. But his dog and himself become the catalyst for the emerging and developing relationship between Nicholson and Hunt's characters.

In general, I was extremely pleased with the directing and acting in this film. Under the keen direction of James L. Brooks and, naturally, thanks to the talented ensemble of performers, all of the characters in the film were three-dimensional, integral and memorable. Because besides three main characters, Simon's friend Frank (Cuba Gooding, Jr.) and Carol's mother (Shirley Knight) also turned out rather colorful and bright.

And, of course, we were very pleased with the humor: very subtle and ironic, sometimes even elusive, but all the jokes were witty and appropriate.

Summary. A brilliant melodramatic comedy with an excellent cast and very enjoyable humor. This movie is a must-see!
