What can I say? Once again, Frank Darabont has done it. And should there have been any doubt? Probably not. Stephen King's works adapted by Darabont are, first of all, dramas. First of all, this applies to the movie Escape from Shawshank, where King did without any fiction at all.

In "The Green Mile" supernatural element is present in the form of a mysterious black giant John Coffey. In the film adaptation of the novel "The Mist", which with the light hand of distributors became known as "The Mist" and was dubbed a horror film, the supernatural stalks from every crevice, seeping through any barrier and bringing with it a terrible death.

But King and Darabont know their stuff. And their film is not just a dumb scary movie with monsters (and that's what all the bulls who flood theaters and prevent those who really like movies from enjoying it) expect to see on the screen. They created another masterpiece. A true drama in the fullest sense of the word.

The exposure of true humanity in times of mortal danger is the theme of more than one feature film. Perhaps, in The Darkness this theme becomes the first place even at the most superficial analysis of what is happening on the screen. When watching the movie, one has to wonder what is scarier, the most unbelievable devil of hell or a man mad with fear? On what actions can push a person piercing to the very bones of animal fear? In conditions when the terrible death becomes only a matter of time and there is no hope for salvation, the majority becomes a solid gray mass.

People become a herd that is so easy to control. By the same law of life there will be those who will not lose their senses, and will go to the end, gritting their teeth and sacrificing themselves for the sake of others. And they will do it not for heroism, but simply because they can not do otherwise.

"The Darkness" strikes with its toughness. And, monsters it concerns the last of all. In front of us all the underbelly of his majesty of man reasonable. All his behavior, motivations for actions and values, as on the palm of the hand. Fear opens your eyes to many things. But at the same time, it is not a shame to be afraid, as the heroine of the beautiful Laurie Holden says. It's shameful when fear begins to control a person....
