The Frilling family moves to a new home after their former residence in Costa Verde is blown up by uninvited visitors from the beyond. However, the spirits of the dead do not leave their intentions to get Carol Ann, the clairvoyant daughter of the Frillings.

When I heard that there is a second part of the magnificent, atmospheric 'Poltergeist', my first thought was, how much can we torture the poor family, who have already suffered in the first part? And then there's the third part.... Oh, well, that's for later. First, let's talk about the second part.

Of course, what immediately catches the eye is that the sequel was filmed without Steven Spielberg's participation. It can be seen from the very first scene, when some obscure Indian appears, does something incomprehensible, and then only we see the long-suffering family. Besides, it's unclear where the eldest daughter has gone. No, well, the fact that the actress who played her role was strangled by an overly jealous boyfriend, shortly after the release of the first part, it is known, but why in the plot plan her absence is not explained in any way? I think old Spielberg certainly wouldn't have allowed himself such familiarity with the viewer.

It is obvious that a couple of years have passed since the events of the first part, as the girl looks visibly grown up, but for some reason it is not clear how the family lived these past couple of years. And why, one may ask, at this very moment a certain demon in the guise of a holy father decided to hunt for her?

Just on this basis alone, it should be said that the second part of the creators treated with some disdain, which certainly can not help but affect the overall assessment of the movie. But besides the plot troubles we will be disappointed in terms of special effects. If the Disney graphics in the first part was still more or less allowed in small quantities, then in the second part its use is simply limitless, compared to the original, which is also striking from the first scene with the Indian.

However, in addition to unpleasant feelings from the movie, there are also extremely positive emotions. It is impossible, for example, not to notice the excellent play of the actors, and absolutely all of them, from the Indian with a seemingly stone face, who turns out to be not so stale and rude as he seems at first, to the children, who also perfectly cope with their roles. And what to say, if even the dog looked not just an unnecessary attribute of family life, but an important part of the family, which managed to play its role in the final salvation of the family.

Also, if the video effects are not too believable and pleasing to the eye, the music is still top notch. Yes, of course, as in the first part, it sometimes does not fit too much into the situation, but still most of the time it sounds pleasant to the ear, and in addition quite unusual in terms of originality.

And the plot is by and large not too bad, even despite the flaws I described above. I really liked the idea that, united together, the family gets such power, which even demons from otherworlds are not able to resist, love eventually wins.

To summarize, I can say that of course there is not much in common with the first part of the sequel, and it is much worse in terms of atmosphere and special effects, but it is still interesting to watch the old characters.
