Story Movie

Lifeforce 4K 1985 Ultra HD 2160p
While exploring Halley's comet, an expedition of the space shuttle "Churchill" discovers a bizarrely shaped alien ship, and inside - three humanoids in glass sarcophagi, two men and a woman. They take the find aboard and head for Earth. Some time later, the British space agency, having opened the Churchill, which had not responded, finds traces of fire, badly mutilated bodies of the crew and three intact sarcophagi inside. It was a big mistake to take them away for research - soon the woman, having sucked the life force from the guard dry, escapes from the lab, and something inexplicable happens to the bodies of her victims. In the meantime, an escape pod lands in Texas with the captain of the Churchill, the only man capable of shedding light on the hell that is going on in London.

Review 4K Movie

It is surprising that Toob Hooper has aroused little interest in audiences with his new film, Life Force. His last project, Poltergeist, three years earlier, was much more interesting. Despite the obvious presence of sci-fi and to a lesser extent horror, there are also bed scenes in Life Force. But they blend well with the unvarnished vampire themes noted by critics. Only in this case, it's not blood being sucked out through an artery in the victim's neck, but the power that humans need so much to live life to the fullest.

An expedition discovers a form of intelligent life in the form of a naked young girl and two naked young guys near the tail of Halley's Comet. All the time the focus is on the young female specimen. Even the male crew notes the attractive power of the beauty. The vampire gets on board the ship, and after it lands on Earth, being at liberty without much effort, unlike her companions, begins to act as she pleases. Naturally, even tough men find themselves defenseless against the gorgeous brunette, especially when you consider that she walks around the building naked. Very little screen time is allotted to male energy vampires, and there's a reason for that.

It makes you wonder if the director wanted to show that in real life we see pretty much the same thing. When an irresistible beauty, due to her attractiveness, is able to make men rave and salivate and take away, hypothetically, some of their power, thus making them almost completely depend on her. Here, too, you begin to ponder this topic-why do grandmothers live longer than grandfathers? Undoubtedly, men's abuse of alcoholic beverages during almost their entire life period plays a role here. It is also worth bearing in mind that other equally important factors affect life expectancy, but in most cases the situation is the same.

As a joke, it is worth remembering the story of Leonardo DiCaprio's character in "Titanic" who went to meet his dream and ended up at the bottom of the ocean instead of his new girlfriend; the story of Will Smith's character who manages to survive with a devoted sheepdog in "I Am Legend" for a long time, but dies after a short meeting with a woman afterwards; and, as one striking example, the story of Jean Renault's character in "Leon," who mastered the skills of a hitman but also ended his fate tragically after meeting the harmless girl Matilda.

There isn't much in the film that would induce one to end up watching it. On the contrary, it is interesting to watch how Colonel Kane and Colonel Carlsen look for an energy vampire, a role which was easily given to Matilda May, apparently because she had nothing to say and had only to display her naked body. Here the acting of Peter Firth as Colonel Kane and Steve Railsback as Colonel Carlsen is worthy to note because the duet looks splendid. The special effects are also at a high level. The space in the film looks decent even now, not to mention how it was perceived by the audience in 1986. The sheer scale of what is going on also adds to the picture. And why was the film not well received by the audience, as Toob Hooper himself points out? Because there is a profound meaning to the story.
