Review 4K Movie

The long-awaited return of Jason Voorhees turned out to be a reboot of the franchise, taking the first three installments of the original and filming them in a new way. Leaving room for a prequel in the style of 'Friday the 13th: The Beginning' and for a sequel, judging by the awesome ending of this movie.

At the beginning of all, we would like to pay attention to who brought this Friday back to the screens. The creator of the best part of 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre', Marcus Nispel, did a great job directing the 12th Jason movie in his original and inimitable style. Nispel's direction is very strong, pressing, showing the horrors from their different sides, from the murders to the gruesome setting of the mines, rats and other creepy moments.

There are a lot of murders in the movie, with it not easy to guess who will actually make it to the end. And many of the deaths turn out to be very sudden and unexpected. The movie is abundantly filled with sharp moments, scaring the viewer in the best traditions of slashers. The main key elements are also observed: the movie has a lot of suspense, an abundance of nude scenes, a lot of blood and a charismatic maniac.

Slasher turned out to be not so much a benchmark, but 'in the best traditions of the genre', in principle, we got exactly what we expected, rejoicing in the innovations in the franchise, the original reboot of the first three films, and quite colorful dismemberment, for the sake of which slashers and go to slashers. But it's impossible to say that Nispel has surpassed his own 'Texas Massacre'. Even though the new Friday turned out to be almost the best in the series.

The cast played very realistically and beautifully, the behavior of the characters is distinguished by quite reasonable logic of actions, dialogues are silly, but nevertheless quite suitable for the whole company of characters. The youth plays itself, with a share of vulgar jokes, foul language, the desire to smoke pot, get drunk and have sex.

Jason's new look exceeds all expectations. This is definitely the best Jason Voorhees in the history of Friday the 13th. They finally made him an unkillable hustling Rambo, with a great calculating mind. Jason sets traps, takes prisoners, shoots arrows, throws axes, makes various traps, steals kerosene to light mines. Moreover, the story of the 'drowned boy' itself has been altered a bit, making it different. Paying attention to Jason's mom, and the scene of finding the mask, and of course his main attribute - machete. The new mask is also very nice, although in the style of the classic versions, but still special.

The effects are also pleasing to the eye. Throughout the movie there is so much spectacular and bloody that the cruelty of the movie is simply amazed. Brutal massacre turned out to be to the glory! A lot of innovations in the original kills, many of which became the best in the series. Spectacular visual presentation of dismemberment made the movie extremely scary and atmospheric.

Now to the flaws. The movie does have them, and there is no way you can't turn a blind eye to them. The biggest disadvantage of the movie is the camerawork. Some scenes are shot with a twitching camera, which is not acceptable for a slasher. The camera slides too quickly on panoramas, thus preventing from considering the rooms and landscapes in their entirety, merging the interior with sharp gusts. At times the shooting is very competent, even admirable. But, in some places this shakiness of the camera is simply annoying.

Further, it is impossible not to notice that the movie is stuffed with a fair share of stamps. First of all, it's just another 'no cell phone reception here' thing. Secondly, some scenes remind other horror movies, in which it was the same. The mines in the style of the movie 'My Bloody Valentine', Jason's cave is like a sequel to 'The Hills Have Eyes', the fact of taking the girl hostage and the concept of the plot, where at the end of the heroes in these mines and get. Nispel outdid himself by making a brief history of his 'Texas Massacre' in the prologue in the style of 'the guys came to get some weed and they got chopped up by a masked guy'. The remake played on the chips of other remakes, dialing the best quotes into itself, adding originality of ideas and innovation.

The music of the movie is good, but a far cry from those great sharp violin melodies from the first parts of the franchise. When the strings seem to cut the veins, squeaking as if with chalk on a blackboard with sharp eerie sounds. The movie lacks just such design. There is also one more criticism to the sound effects - the movie has very little of the main 'sound' of all 'Friday the 13th' - ha,-ha,-ha, shh-chh-chh-chh-chh. It is heard only three times in the movie, which is very little, and in inappropriate places for this sound. Which fans of the franchise will find very frustrating.

The movie met all expectations, but some elements still slightly spoil the impression. You could still shoot better, but there are hopes for a sequel. In conclusion, I would like to express only my wishes and hopes for the next part:
- to open the camp, making a remake in the style of the 6th part.
- to introduce Tommy Jarvis and Krazy Ralph.
- to remove the stamps, and a competent approach to camerawork.

On the whole, objectively, the movie turned out better than very many previous parts, from which it became almost the best in the series. Very spectacular, bloody, scary and atmospheric. A must-see for all fans of slashers and horror movies about homicidal maniacs. Fans of the series clearly will not disappoint, something to please and surprise. Nispel, despite the presence of flaws, still made a masterpiece, a great movie in his unique style.
