Review 4K Movie

Location: Camp Crystal Lake.

Participants: a group of camp counselors invited to work at a re-opening camp, and a homicidal maniac willing to do anything to prevent the event.

Competition Program: Survival Game.

Equipment: axe, machete, hunting knife, bow and arrow, and anything else you can get your hands on.

In fact, if you watch this movie nowadays, it's clear that it's nothing out of the ordinary. There are dozens of slashers like this these days. The main merit of 'Friday' is that this picture was a pioneer along with such established standards of the genre as 'Halloween', 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre' and 'A Nightmare on Elm Street'. Four seminal creations of the slasher genre. What made them stand out among the multitude of tasteless tricks on the same theme? Why were these four stories so beloved by audiences? With three of them it's clear - Freddy, Michael Myers and Leatherface became truly iconic characters, ensured the success of the films and spawned a huge number of sequels, threequels, remakes and other sequels, most of which were saved only by the charisma of the main villain. But 'Friday! After all, Jason, the character with whom the entire series title is instantly associated, only appears for a few seconds in the first installment. Perhaps the elaborate murders were the reason for the film's popularity? You know, everyone knows that in slasher films the heroes should die as horrible and original as possible. Not even that in Friday the 13th! Originality? I wouldn't say that. So what's the secret to success?

I think it's the ruthlessness and uncompromising nature of the writers. These qualities first emerge around the twentieth minute of the film. In the beginning, when the viewer was presented all the characters in turn, one of the characters was given a little more attention than the others. I was left in no doubt as to who was to defeat the maniac in the finale. Naive! Who do you think was going to die first just twenty minutes into the movie? And so this uncaring attitude toward the characters' fates, their lives and deaths runs through the entire film. What difference, really, does it make which of these silly teenagers is going to the other world? It's even a little unclear why you had to soften the very last scene, which can be called one of the most original, pessimistic, yet funny scenes in the history of the genre.

What can I say? A classic. And even if the picture may not impress much, you should read it anyway.
