Investigator Elizabeth Guardiano and Captain Frank de Roland of the National Gendarmerie arrive in a provincial town. I attended this movie as spontaneously as possible, as there was nothing else in the assortment for the near future. Immediately expected the worst, as is often the case with pseudo-sinister, omen, astral, etc. The beginning seemed interesting, especially the casual acquaintance of the main characters, the narration is measured, not drawn out. At the beginning of the film we are more attracted by the beauty of the terrain and shooting locations, and later really brutal, detailed shots. And that's it, it starts to drag on, you can't tear yourself away from watching it for a moment. The introductory, portioned narration is long, but it's really fun to watch. As a fan of the horror genre, and in particular, narrating about small picturesque settlements with their customs, I was delighted already in the first quarter of the movie. It's also equally interesting to watch the interactions of the main characters and learn about their traumatic past in fragments. As you watch the movie, you start to make various guesses, because, although little by little we start to be shown something more concrete, but personally I had no thoughts even close to assumptions similar to what it all turned out to be in reality.

The movie really dragged right up to the finale, the time flew by. Actors play really well, their emotions, experiences cause trust, sympathy. The plot itself is certainly not new: a small town in the middle of nowhere with its own customs, with its own myths and legends, and of course strangers are not welcome. But damn, it is this interpretation of this “hackneyed” template - my favorite. Yes, and in general, as for me, this film can compete with some instances recognized as classics. Characters are described really well, also their backstory, it is shown to us not so much, only the basic, without water and drag, to increase the timing.

Also, a special place in this picture is occupied by incredible beauties of nature, architecture, images of the inhabitants of the wilderness, well, and actually “The Soul Eater” itself. The only thing that the movie lacked, or rather, what I would like to see is the fate of the heroes at the end of the main events, the reaction of the inhabitants to the explanation of what happened. It is because of this that the ending falls a little short of the ideal. I wish I could back up each of my words with more specifics, but I don't want to spoil the impression with spoilers. I unequivocally recommend it to connoisseurs of the genre, well, and just for familiarization. I unequivocally recommend the movie.
