Review 4K Movie

'Society breeds violence. But we have to do something about it' - that's what one of the characters in Aldo Lado's 'Last Stop on the Night Train' says. By doing so, a strong social subtext is given to this movie.

The fact is that a very conciliatory social position is adopted by a man, the father of one of the girls who is destined to die. There is an obvious reference to Ingmar Bergman's 'The Girl Spring' and Wes Craven's 'Home on the Edge of the Left'.

It is clear that the father will have to face the criminals and act according to the situation. However, those who watched the two earlier prototype films - the development of events will probably seem so predictable that the picture will not want to continue watching.

However, the picture is actually much stronger than it seems. While Bergman focuses on the religious aspect and Wes Craven on the naturalistic features of crime and punishment, Aldo Lado concentrates all logical accents around the social theme. Not at all accidentally, he adds to the two guys - criminals, two more characters.

One of them is a girl who quite loyally accepted the sexual abuse of one of them and became close to them. The second is a random passerby who witnessed the crime, and if you think about it, then an accomplice.

Aldo Lado's plot changes are understandable - he makes the viewer think about who the real criminal is in modern society. He very clearly points out that swaggering murderers and rapists are not as scary as some modest good citizens. The most important thing here is the lightness and ease with which Aldo Lado showed it.

In general, having watched several of Aldo Lado's movies, I am fully convinced of his high artistic skill. Perhaps he was not too lucky with good scripts, but the director's staging talent is obvious. Despite his many flaws and shortcomings, Aldo Lado's cinematography was very competitive. This is most obvious now, after the passage of time, when it is possible to compare and draw conclusions. He was skillful in creating atmosphere. At the same time, the significant role of the composer, Ennio Morricone, cannot be overlooked.
