Dr. Robert Verne and his wife arrive in the North American wilderness, where in addition to disagreements between a lumber company and Indian tribes over the use of the land, there is another problem - a huge mutant monster, born as a result of toxic waste contaminating the local waters.

In the forests of Maine, a toxic woodworking company has created a mercury mutant that is tearing foresters and Native Americans apart, and an environmentalist and his wife, who suffers from her husband's unshared pregnancy cravings, come from Washington, D.C., to get to the bottom of it. If this sounds like the blueprint for a fun thrash-horror movie, it is, only without the 'fun' prefix. In fact, the movie is disappointingly boring, I somehow expected more from Mr. Frankensteiner.

In fact, the monster starts to play rubber muscle only in the last third of the movie, until then all the attention is paid to the protagonist's attempts to get the capitalists out, to arguments with his wife about 'to give birth or not to give birth', as well as to the problems of the local Indian tribe, slowly degenerating because of the pollution of their living space. It's depressing to watch, if only it were diluted with fun meat, but it's not - a couple or three existing murders are handled with a rare toothlessness. There is no tension either, there is only one really good scene in the movie - with hiding from the monster underground - but neither before nor after this scene does the movie cause any fear or creepiness.

There wasn't much of the thrash-horror I expected either. Like I said, the movie didn't really get going until the last half hour, and yes, there was some running away from the Krakozabra through the woods, a couple of torn bodies, and the evil creature was shown from all angles, but it all looked pretty ridiculous. I don't know how it happened that in a movie with a budget of 12 million dollars the makeup and effects looked on the level of Roger Corman's movies (well, maybe a little better, but only a little). All the action was presented in an extremely half-wilted manner, I didn't see any savoring of the murders or interesting staging of the action, it was as if Frankenheimer wasn't interested in making this movie, and he did it on automatic, without making a third of the possible efforts. Not that his filmography was full of masterpieces, no, he had his fair share of failures and absurdities, but from the technical point of view he was always competent, I don't know what happened to him this time.

All in all, it's not a terrible movie, but I watched it on fast-forward with a clear conscience, because at times it was a bit stagnant. It's also, for some reason, called the same name as the mystical horror movie with Christopher Walken, which I stumbled upon in my search for it. What prophecy is meant - I have no idea, maybe the one I predicted in the title of the review, but it didn't come true, I'm a bad Vanga.
