17-year-old Gretchen arrives in Germany with her father, stepmother, and single younger sister, Alma, to a small recreation center whose owner, her father's longtime business partner, has offered him a job planning a new facility. The girl is not excited about the move and misses her mother. Relations with her father finally deteriorate when Alma is hospitalized with convulsions of unknown origin, and Gretchen herself begins to be haunted by a creepy woman.

Seventeen-year-old Gretchen will live in the middle of the forest. She gets a job working for Mr. König at the reception desk of a luxurious villa located near the hotel. Its owner, Mr. König (Dan Stevens), invited Louis to design a new business, another nest for tourists from all over the world...

Cast: Gretchen is understandable, and she weighs on their necks like unnecessary ballast. Her father divorced and remarried, started a new family and had a child, hoping to make up for his failed marriage. Therefore, the girl is not happy to be with people who do not need her at all. Besides, who would be happy to move from the US to Germany? No one. One day, Gretchen and her sister hear a strange scream from the forest that puts them both into a trance. Gretchen will have to go through a lot of time overload to realize her responsibility. Hunter Schafer played wonderfully.

Everything else: the director tried to make the previous horror film unpredictable, but Medium turned out to be weak. Although he tries to do in The Cuckoo what he didn't do in the previous film.

German director Tilman Singer does not try to reinvent the wheel in the horror genre. He goes straight and persistently for broke. So expect screamers and tourist location sets. Only everything else won't add up in the viewer's mind. Or the viewer will completely distrust Gretchen's words from those around her, and the unambiguously negative image of the German König does not brighten up the film.

The intrigue in this film around the monster does not build up. The most terrifying moments are the scenes with time travel. The guys run and try to escape, but there is nothing they can do about it. The danger is still close, and with each call, it gets closer.

Largely thanks to Simon Vaskov's musical theme on the violin, the suspense in this film is highlighted in an unusual way. This hysterical suspense becomes one of the film's lifelines. Add to that the screeching of the creature, and the viewer is drawn into the idea of an alarming story. A creative approach. This justified the film as a horror movie.

As for the detective storyline, it turned out well. The four locations are shown quite well. Each of the characters has different roles and quirks in their personalities.

Impressions: the main task of this work is the maturation of the main character and her acquisition of responsibility for other people. If we take into account the heroines from other horror films, they are often passive. Usually, women in horror films run away and scream for help (Gretchen does this for about half of the film). The other half is confrontation and sobriety in a situation where she does not make the same mistakes twice. In many ways, the plot twist saves the film. But this film is enhanced by Hunter's acting, which was lacking in Yorgos Lanthimos' previous film.
