Story Movie

On July 4, while going to watch the fireworks after Danica and Teddy's engagement party, the five friends become unwittingly involved in a car accident that kills a man. They decide not to tell anyone about it, and Teddy's rich father does his best to cover it up. A year later, Danica is getting married to someone else and, opening presents at a bachelorette party, discovers a note - "I know what you did last summer." That same night, her fiancé is brutally murdered by an unknown man with a huge hook.

Review 4K Movie

I don't always remember what I did last week, but I do remember the 1990s horror film I Know What You Did Last Summer. There was something special about it. I think her name was Sarah Michelle Gellar. Or maybe it's just nostalgia for my teenage years. Rumors about a sequel to the 1997 film have been circulating for a long time. Finally, the time has come: the maniac in a fisherman's suit with a hook is back on the hunt. Have you been waiting for this? Personally, I definitely have.

The main thing when creating nostalgic sequels is to treat the original with respect. Fans will definitely appreciate that. The writers and director of the new film have partly succeeded in this. We return to the town of Southport in North Carolina, to the seashore and the winding path that runs along the coast. Yes, it is no longer the fishing village it was in the nineties, but time does not stand still. The summer blockbuster... I mean, horror movie atmosphere is wonderfully captured. But then the doubts begin.

Unfortunately, I can't say much good about the lead actors. Almost all of them are some kind of gray and emotionally limited biomass. Ava, Danica, Milo, Teddy—they're all the same, a little slow and lifeless. Maybe it's the substances they use, or maybe they just got their fees cut. But unfortunately, they have no charm or chemistry. I don't feel sorry for them.

On the other hand, the supporting characters are generally enjoyable. And I'm not just talking about the “old guard” in the form of Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt. True, not everyone will appreciate their return, and not everyone will understand how their characters were treated. Certainly not with respect. But it is realistic and quite logical. Among the young actors, I liked the performance of Sarah Pidgeon, who played Stevie. At first, she doesn't really fit in with the group of majors and seems somewhat detached, but then she manages to reveal different sides of herself.

Perhaps the new film lacks dynamism. The narrative is calm, sometimes unhurried, just like the maniac in this film. He can sneak up unnoticed in a heavy suit with a heavy hook close to his victim, and then slowly pursue her, dragging the murder weapon along metal bars. This can be attributed to the constraints of the genre. But overall, the murder scenes are quite in keeping with the spirit of a good slasher film, with no shortage of fake blood.

However, the detective storyline is rather weak, and it is quite easy to guess the identity of the killer. By the middle of the film, I already knew who was hacking up the poor teenagers. The ending was rather boring. On the one hand, they tried to introduce a plot twist, but on the other hand, it was too drawn out. On the other hand, they left room for a sequel. But is it necessary? Personally, I'm not sure.

Thanks to the creators for 100 minutes of nostalgia and bloody carnage. It could have been better, but it could have been worse.
